My friend's cat, Geki.

Seen here with the tortie, Zuma.

She can be a little creepy.

Okay, a lot creepy.

As you can see, she doubles as a fashionable throw pillow.

Fun fact: she does not like being bothered when sleeping. Or hiding in her couch. (She clawed at me when I tried to reach in and pet her :()

Ashamed of her bald spot. (something something shaved pussy)

Is that surgically shaved or does she overgroom herself?

Apparently so. Is it a nervous thing? Is it harmful?

Seriously considering adopting a black cat. I met a young-ish black male named Shopper who seemed new to the shelter, and was a little freaked out - but he also was fairly cool with being petted and as far as the volunteers knew he was fine with being picked up when he's calm. There was another younger female named Spooky there, but she was hiding in the shadows behind the cat tree. True to her name :unsmith:

I've heard black cats are generally really chill and affectionate, is this true?

FretforyourLatte posted:

My daughter loves that movie (It's "How to Train Your Dragon", btw) because the dragon reminds her so much of Spooky. She calls it The Spooky Dragon Movie.

Woah wait what.

I dropped my kids of at pre-school this morning and it's a chilly -7C, as I get out of the car a black cat comes walking up and is real friendly, even allows me to pick him up, and he tries to get into the car even. Poor thing I wonder if he was cold, given how sociable he was I doubt he was a stray, probably lives in some of the houses around the school (kinda rural place, there are houses all around the place).

I'm not sure if there's anything I could do for the little guy (assuming, might be a she), though to occurred to me to bring some food, I just hope he has a home nearby.

This is how my own cat was rescued. Out of sympathy, please please please bring then to a shelter if you see them again and start pawing at you for help. Black cats are adorable and loving and they deserve the help. If not for me, then for Jet.

Look how happy he is :unsmith:

Fortunately, the Bay Area has some excellent shelters, and I am certain that there is another fantastic black kitten that needs a forever home just waiting for me.

🖤 a good good baby. He knows he was loved and was very happy in his final days.

RIP Talbot. If only their lifespans were longer. :(

Whenever I hear about a cat passing my brain goes to Tim Kreider’s eulogy to his own cat. The last few paragraphs always get me.

quote:

I’ve speculated that people have a certain reservoir of affection that they need to express, and in the absence of any more appropriate object — a child or a lover, a parent or a friend — they will lavish that same devotion on a pug or a Manx or a cockatiel, even on something neurologically incapable of reciprocating that emotion, like a monitor lizard or a day trader or an aloe plant.

Yes, god, thank you. People don’t realize that people have a quota of affection to give every day as well as receive.
