That would make sense and I suspect that's probably what it is, but it seems like a strange word to use to describe that. Also seems strange to make it a per-player kind of choice and not just an option in the Options menu.

It's called navigation because Rise served that role using her Persona's power. Instead of going into the TV world, she'd be outside and do dumb poo poo like remind you about enemies' weaknesses and say WATCH OUT SENPAI or whatever else.

I want the chill weed fox from the shrine as a playable character.

Seriously, though, I went ahead and jumped on that Newegg discount deal for this and then started watching some videos, and I gotta say the game has me somewhat more excited than I had expected. I'm definitely interested in giving the axe robot girl (both versions I guess) and Akihiko a try.

I sure love me some Challenge Mode combos. I've only done 29 for Labrys so far, with 20-25 for most everyone else. Speaking of Labrys 29, there's a non-obvious trick you need to know to do it. When Labrys does her 22+attack special, she can charge it to delay the sword from popping out of the ground. What the game doesn't outright tell you is that you can switch the button you charge with without changing where the sword pops out as long as you switch held buttons before the animation of the sword entering the ground. The challenge calls for 22[A] with a Standing A right after it, so what you can do is 22A~[C] into the A 2B XX super.

Gwyrgyn Blood posted:

You also don't need to start holding down the A button until after the link where you need the 5A. So you can actually just do:

{5B} 22A, [5A] 2B 236236]A[A.

Either way works though.

I'd tried it that way, but it felt way weirder, especially with the super cancel also needing A shortly after. It's good to know that both methods work, though.

I don't play Yu myself, but his broad gameplan is to land a hit, do a decent combo, and end it with some kind of knockdown (generally sweep, I would imagine) into his Standing D so he can pressure the opponent on their wakeup (or just catch a napping opponent not teching). You especially want to drive the opponent to the corner where it's tougher for them to escape the pressure, and be mindful of when the opponent might want to burst, guard cancel, or use some sort of invincible reversal to try and escape your pressure.

I don't get why a "charge character" even exists because it's a retarded, counterintuitive idea. The fact that mastering Mitsuru's terrible controls gives you a pretty irritating character for everyone else to fight against it the biggest flaw in this game.

Charge moves exist in general because they are moves with properties that, if they had a quarter-circle or even half-circle motion, would be far too good. Also, just because you don't happen to like charge motions or you just hate Mitsuru or whatever, it doesn't make charge motions terrible.

Balancing moves by deliberately giving them terrible controls is a dumb idea. If a moves so powerful you decide to "balance" it by making it hard to activate then the move should not exist.

A) They're not hard to do and B) even if they were, the supposed difficulty of performing them is not what I was referring to when it came to their deliberate design from a balance standpoint.

Seriously, charge moves and charge characters are not that hard to get used to, and Mitsuru is especially generous because she can completely build a charge during her sweep as long as you go to down-back immediately after pressing her standing B (during that move's active animation).

It's almost like it's a flaw holding the genre back!

This game has already made so many concessions to make things as simple as possible execution-wise and yet you still are complaining because you don't want to take five minutes in training mode to find out how long the charge times for Mitsuru's moves are. Do you need this kind of extreme hand-holding in everything you play?

I've been trials grinding lately because I am dumb like that, and I've gotten down to three painful trials left: Chie 30, Mitsuru 30, and Yosuke 30. Chie 30 is especially lovely because, even though I understand that I have to start with 214D for the Fatal Counter and that the God Hand has to hit as high as possible, I have not once gotten the 2A after the first God Hand to connect.

I said this in the general thread, but there appears to be a new TV shaped indicator under the BURST gauge that shows your character's persona now. I could see that potentially meaning there'd be different persona choices for the characters, although I guess it could just be an aesthetic change, too.

New character 1: Junpei Iori
Persona: Trismegistus

Junpei now works as a coach for a schoolboy baseball team. His battle style is also closely connected to baseball.

A cheerful young man, Junpei is dressed in baseball clothes, so it is not surprising that he also has a special baseball gauge (that you can see on the screenshots). This gauge has a scoreboard that keeps track of the score accumulated by hitting the enemy with specific special moves. When the score is high enough, the character’s performance improves.

Swing that bat, whoosh, whoosh! As in the original game, Trismegistus has some fire attacks.

Though I didn’t examine this character in great detail, there is a super-move that gives you a whole bunch of points. After getting about 10 points, Junpei also started shining? He feels like a powerful close-ranged fighter with the emphasis on powerful single attacks. You can also use that back to strike back various projectiles shot at you!

A button normals: bare-handed attacks. The reach is pretty short? Ah, you can also do a dive kick similar to Narukami’s in the air!
B button normals: attacks with the bat. Have the best reach in Junpei’s arsenal.
C button normals: Trismegistus attacks by shooting fire.
D button normals: Trismegistus rushes forward.

Special move 1: Junpei swings at the enemy with a bat. This is the special at the end of the AAAA combo.
Special move 2: Junpei slides forward! Hits low and low-profiles many moves. It also feels like you can follow it up after a dash… (doesn’t remember clearly)
Special move 3: Junpei assumes the bunting pose. It has a hitbox, since I was able to reflect the enemy projectile with this.
Special move 4: Junpei strikes a pose, as Trismegistus falls down on the enemy. The distance depends on the button pressed.
SP Skill 1: A fiery swing full of excitement! You can also hold down the button.
R-Action: Charge the power and swing with the bat! You can hold it for quite a while, too.

There was a lot of other stuff, but I couldn’t check it out… Sorry!

Junpei strikes the “Safe!” pose, and the Persona falls on the enemy. The opponent is certainly going to be surprised by this.

The sliding that every baseball fan loves so much! Junpei is shining, but is that because it’s the victory pose?..

quote:

New character 2: Yukari Takeba
Persona: Isis

After graduation, Yukari’s been working as an actress in various super-sentai shows. This time, she’s wearing a Featherman suit. She even wears the mask, though she takes it off before the fight begins.

A strong-minded young woman that hails from Persona 3. Since she fights with a bow, she makes for a good zoning character. She combines various long-ranged attacks with applying various status ailments (such as charm and confusion). If the arrow passes through the special Garu swirl, it becomes enchanted and tracks down the opponent!

Most of Yukari’s attacks are long-ranged projectiles. I had fun shooting the opponent down!

A button normals: Yukari kicks at the enemy’s feet.
B button normals: On the ground, Yukari shoots an arrow upwards. You can hold down the button, too! In midair, you can change the angle of the shot by tilting the stick.
C button normals: Isis creates a Garu swirl that attacks the enemy.

Special move 1: Yukari shoots an arrow straight forward. You can charge this move, too.
Special move 2: Isis creates a ball of wind and throws it in a parabolic trajectory.
Special move 3: Yukari covers the arrow with some kind of poison? The exact properties of this move are unknown.
SP Skill 1: An arrow that tracks the opponent’s position. It’s shot really, really fast!
Awakening SP Skill: A huge tornado appears on the screen. The exact position depends on the button pressed.
R-Action: A dashing attack that gets Yukari behind the opponent.

That’s all. Sorry for not trying so much stuff! (Especially the D normals).

Yukari can create Garu spheres all over the screen. It seems you can also do it in midair.

An explosion of a flashy special move! Of course, the cut-in is there, too.

Yukari has some melee attacks and throws, too. Though difficult, it seems that she’s able of fighting up close, too.

Stunedge sorta clarified the SLab comment:

quote:

somebody mentioned S.lab 2C mash thing earlier so I will clarify.

In current version, S.lab can put Buffalo into 'block mode' by holding D buttons for while and you don't have to hold D buttons alldays to keep it blocking. And what is important is that you can directly do Persona moves while blocking.

Since she has persona on wakeup so if you set it to blockmode, you can simply just mash 2C during block and if there is even 1f space between chains persona will be activated for 2C (which was originally her 8C)

The important distinctions here are that she can't make Asterius act during guardstun or when she's knocked down, but rather if guardstun drops but Asterius was still in its block mode and during her wakeup. At least, that's how it reads to me, though it admittedly still seems unclear. In any event, even if she can call the uppercut while locked in guardstun now, I really doubt that would stay through to the final product.

Not having the defensive benefits of a defensive Burst or of Awakening reducing damage taken when you get down that low seems to be the big things, to the point where most people weren't using Shadow characters and they had to give them general system buffs in the 1.1 patch.
