I lunch around there most weekdays. Timber Yard does great coffee, cakes (coconut zucchini bread) sandwiches and quiche. There's a Bill's too, and Monmouth up the street. I can rarely justify Kopapa but it is excellent. Up on Charring Cross there's Foyles bookstore cafe (on the top floor) and Chipotle then you're into SOHO with tonnes of options. Also there's a Nisbets on Shaftsbury Ave.. kitchen porn.

It's not too far... I went to school in Golders Green all those years ago, and I was about to suggest Cafe Japan... but it looks like there has been a spate of very negative reviews lately which is a shame as it was the bollocks back then. Might be worth poking your head round the door to see if you get a good feeling about if you're ever in GG for some reason, but it looks like its not worth a special trip out there any more.

I'm midway between Kilburn and West Hampstead so I'm not sure if you can get stuff from the Tiffin Tin where you are but that's my indian takeaway of choice.

Followup, any recommended pubs/bars for a first date, maybe more around West Hampstead?

Most half decent butchers will do haggis these days. Hell, I'm pretty sure I've seen some in supermarkets, though I don't think I'd eat a supermarket one.

For more general food stuff, Wet Fish Cafe is good general european bistro type of stuff with good lunchtime deals. La Brocca is good generalised italian in the same area. There's also the Alice House but I found it pricy, boring and just generally meh. There's a branch of Guglee there which is always decent for southern-ish Indian but only five minutes farther up is the Tiffin Tin which I personally prefer. Other good reasonable date pub pub is more down on kilburn: The Priory Tavern on 250 Belsize road. They have a good spirits selection too. The Earl Derby on Kilburn high road itself is a reasonable boozer but skip the food; it used to be far better. It's still finding its feet and tends to be a little empty. There's also always the Czech Pub (place still owns though the staff has changed a lot in recent years). The Czech Pub is, well, more homey so it depends on the date but well worth going for a quirky place with reasonably priced pilsner and good central european food. It's a place with history and basically just plonked in a former detached house. Used to be the place to watch ice hockey world cup but last couple of times I've been in there the TVs have been on the blink so not sure about that one now. I just had extremely good tapas for lunch in Crouch End at Bar Esteban. I think it's the best Spanish food I've had in London. We just had V dishes: pan con tomate, tortilla, fried aubergine with honey and walnuts, crispy chickpeas, spinach with pine nuts and raisins. Everything was absolutely delicious. With a coffee and service, the bill was £24. Really really good. We are DEFINITELY going back. They also do weekend brunch.

Can anyone suggest somewhere good for cocktails near bank? Two caveats: Partner will be coming straight from Eurogamers (and will look like it) and I am gimpy so nowhere that is standing room or has horrible furniture. Went to Brasserie Zedel bar a few weeks ago and it was full of oligarchs on a stag night (not sure why they'd escaped their city/kennsington prison, but hey...), their perfect manhatten is perfect though.
