I thought it might be worth mentioning chains, as some people might want to know where they can get some decent-ish food anywhere in London without worrying about going into a random restaurant and being disappointed.

It's really not, since the entire purporse of this thread is to tell people where to eat in London, removing the 'randomness' entirely. The only place you mentioned worth going to is Byron, and they ain't all that. Additionally, the other places have branches outside London, making your post equivalent to saying 'If you visit New York, you simply must go to an Olive Garden'.

Burgers, go to Hawksmoor, as previously mentioned, though all their meat is good. If the weather is fine, and you don't mind queueing http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Meatwagon/88296142857 or http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/52/1608...cky-Chip-London will feed you very well.

Vegetarians, go to http://www.mildreds.co.uk/

Japanese http://www.akarilondon.co.uk/

A good brasserie chain, with actual food cooked by real people http://www.cote-restaurants.co.uk/

If you want to eat amazingly well cooked food in a restaurant that looks like it's from the set of a Terry Gilliam movie, Les Trois Garcons http://www.loungelover.co.uk/restaurant/index.html

Vietnamese, 3 locations, though I've only eaten in the Shoreditch one, BYOB http://www.mientay.co.uk/

Cocktails, my local http://offbroadway.org.uk/

Pizza http://www.pizzaeast.com/

Steak http://www.buenayre.co.uk/

You may notice a slight bias towards East London: I live here and work on Broadway Market http://www.broadwaymarket.co.uk/ . It's the best

My understandig is when they extended it out round to hammersmith they cut it off from the endless circling at the same time. It now runs from hammersmith round to Edgware road (via Edgware road) then does a reverse, like a regular old tube line that looks like a loop. They should call it the spiral line at this point.

I donít think it was ever a solid unbroken loop, I thought it looked like an Olympic running track or an omega with no gap in the straight bit at the bottom?

It was a loop until the extension out to Hammersmith (I caught it in the wrong direction once as a teenager in the late 90ís).

Oops, sorry. I meant the actual physical structure, not the bit that you see if you ride the tube. Yeah, I remember going round it once with a girl. After we broke up, I rode it back around in the opposite direction on my own. Ahh to be twenty and stupid again.

Youíll be fine if you wrap it up. Against the vanishingly small chance you get stopped, you have a reasonable excuse for carrying it, which is all you need according to the law. If you have cause to believe that a judge or jury would find this excuse unlikely, find someone else to take it for you.
