As much of a crank that he portrays himself to be, he also does want to improve and bring positivity in his life. I like the fact that although he's negative about a lot of things, he wants to improve himself. He doesn't have the dog. It went full pitbull and he had to get rid of it.

He still hangs out with the dog on a regular basis when the new owner is in town with her.

Yea, Burr can be kinda a kneejerk guy about things but for the most part it's pretty clear he plays up his crank-ness and is really just kinda a regular guy who can be a bit dumb sometimes. He makes a lot of jokes about being bitter and angry but he's also capable of making himself the butt of the joke just as much as he does others. That's why he doesn't suck like the other 'edgy tells it like it is' old fuckers, he's in on the joke that the older yelling white guy is usually an rear end in a top hat, not a brave truth teller.

Heh, just got this in my mail box: ------------------------ Louis C.K. is coming to Belgium THIS MONTH PERFORMING IN BRUSSELS ON MAY 28 Louis C.K. will be trying out new material in just two weeks time, at La Madeleine Brussels. XXX Adults only. Six-time Emmy Award winner Louis C.K. has released over eight stand up specials including Shameless, Chewed Up, Hilarious, Word - Live at Carnegie Hall (audio), Live at the Beacon Theater, Oh My God, Live at the Comedy Store, and most recently Louis C.K. 2017. Louis is the creator, writer, director, and star of the Peabody Award winning shows Louie and Horace and Pete. In January 2015, C.K. became the first comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden three times for the same tour. ------------------------ the organizer, Livecomedy, usually schedules big foreign names months, sometimes half a year in advance. The fact that they only announce it 2 weeks in advance must have a reason. Either he wasn't welcome at the originally planned country/venue, or they don't want to give any 'bad' press or protest a chance to get going. They're probably hoping people here don't know about his wankventures, which is true for the average person. But people who are into comedy do. And when an international comedian comes to brussels, guess what, 3/4 of the audience is gonna be expats. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't give a gently caress.

Not HUGE but big enough to maybe make the news. https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/roseanne-barr-andrew-dice-clay-comedy-tour-1203251081/ I don't dislike Clay (or Barr even) as much as most people and was a huge dice fan when i was young and stupid but this thing just has a regressive, backwards thinking, rebellious for all the wrong reasons stink all over it disguised as free speech and I hope it's not as successful as I think it might be. Many other better and lesser known comics deserve these eyes, ears and ticket sales. With any luck we'll move on and this thing will struggle to sell tickets.

I had been taking a bit of a break from Pete Holmes, but he has been on a tear at Just For Laughs. Lots of new material since Dirty Clean, he was a ton of fun at a very serious podcast (Comedian’s Comedian) and the live You Made It Weird was very good. Him as “Mean Pete” roast battling Blake Griffin was a highlight. If you also took a break, at least check out Dirty Clean if you haven’t already.

Can someone explain to me why trans jokes are so off limits? I know it’s been this way for awhile, but what’s the actual reasoning for it, when it’s okay to poke fun at most other things?

So, um, Pete Davidson had a bit of a meltdown and is apparently still mentally ill. I didn't know he did stand up but I knew the second part. He went with the "millenial snowflakes and their phones" thing, which is odd for someone his age. He also called the audience "retards" https://news.avclub.com/pete-davidson-unloads-on-privileged-little-assholes-d-1837621638

I mean, I think you better have a pretty loving good joke to make a holocaust joke, so I don't get why you think those are some common thing unless you mean generic hack 'yea my grandpa died in Auschwitz, he fell out a guard tower' poo poo no one cares about? The problem with the jokes in question was they weren't really much of 'jokes' to begin with. It was just Dave whining that he doesn't think trans people exist and he doesn't want to use their names or pronouns. It had the same amount of 'joke' in it as the 'nyeeeeh I identify as an attack helicopter, then!!!!' shitposts. You can make a lot of things into jokes, but yea if you're joking about an oppressed group you're not in it's probably best they A) actually be jokes, and B) maybe don't make the punchline just 'trans people, the gently caress???? weird!!!!'

I haven't watched the special myself, but if the bit really is that Dave genuinely doesn't believe trans people exist, I'd imagine there'd probably also be a backlash if he "joked" unironically that the Holocaust didn't exist.

You CAN make a joke out of anything but yea if your topic is a very marginalized group that faces a lot of violence and discrimination just for existing you better have a really fuckin good one that doesn't hinge on just pointing at the group and going 'fuckin weird, right?'

Contrapoints made a video going through this a while back, but the short version is that most “trans jokes” made by cis people aren’t really jokes. They’re more like trite, well-worn observations combined with bullying from people who don’t really understand what they’re talking about. Trans jokes are almost always lazy and unfunny, which makes the audience think your real objective is to simply mock someone behind the “I’m just being a shithead ironically” shield.
