Kumail is one of the funniest comics I've ever seen live. Here's a great clip of him doing stand up on, of all places, "This American Life."

I can't believe I forgot about Jackie Kashian. She's actually the smartest, funniest comedian I've ever seen live.

The Comedians of Comedy TV show is also really good. They did 6 half hour episodes that were really different in tone from the documentary. If it's on Netflix or Hulu or anything, you should watch it.

Any L.A. comedy fans here or comedians? I do open-mics, haven't in a few months, but going to get back into it soon.

I'm an LA comic, and I love open-mics. You should find me on Facebook, I'm probably going to be the first "Asterios" that pops up.

Tosh is as his peak of popularity, while Richards passed his 10 years prior.

I think this is a really good point. People had nothing to lose by going after Richards, so comedians and the industry could all really pile on. Tosh has an incredibly popular TV show and a gigantic fan base. I think it's just gonna go away.

But also, nobody expected Kramer to repeatedly yell the n-word, and people expect disgusting stuff out of Tosh. Nobody's going to be shocked that this happened.

I also still feel that, I don't care how offended a human being is, both the comedian and the audience flat out don't give a poo poo and don't want them disrupting a set for it. Take the disgust and leave.

I think in joking about rape, Tosh was being provocative. He provoked someone into saying something. Nobody should be surprised that someone yelled about being offended during a set about rape jokes.

My first time at an open mic was for a bunch of Cheesecake Factory employees. I thought for some reason that they'd enjoy me making fun of the high prices and terribly unhealthy food at the Cheesecake Factory.

I was wrong!

I did the same mic again a week later and tape recorded it. Here's video of me doing stand-up for the second time.

There are a billion places in LA to get stage time.

Yeah, but it's also not like NY. I've been doing comedy in LA for years, but there's just more mics per night in NY.

For NYC comedy, you should check out Mike Lawrence or Matt Koff. They're two of the funniest guys I've seen in NY. I don't know Mike's website, but you can check out http://www.mattkoff.com for his schedule.

I had a joke in my set that used the word rape when I was younger, and I still feel pretty lovely about it. I think comics should be allowed to tell jokes about whatever they want, but if more of them knew just how many people in the audience had been victims of sexual assault, they'd think twice before using it as a shock punchline.

1 in 5 women have been raped or sexually assaulted, and I really can't imagine what I'd think if I were sitting in an audience and someone brought it up as part of a joke. I think the discussion in the community's healthy because now, if you really want to keep your rape jokes, you're forced to think twice about it.

I went once and just watched one and realized that the worst 2 or 3 guys in that room were so bad that I wasn't in any realistic danger of dragging down the night, and that knowledge allowed me to be much more relaxed.

Yeah, but it's tough following those guys. Sometimes a comic can be so toxic (a.k.a. terrible rape jokes) that it just bums the rest of the room out for a while.

Especially in LA, where nobody but comics go to open mics. A truly awful comic goes up & makes everyone in the room think, "What the gently caress am I doing wasting my time here?"

On the plus side, a good host will make sure to book an awesome comic after an awful one, to get poo poo back on track. Or just put them all up first so we all forget about it!

For LA Paul F. Tompkins fans: I'm doing a show with PFT and DC Pierson this Saturday @ Midnight, UCB. It's a show that's run in LA for over five years, and it's going to be pretty fun. Here's a link: http://losangeles.ucbtheatre.com/shows/view/1798

I'm nearly though this week's DLM, and it's a really good episode. I'm a big fan of the Leonard Maltin Game, and Jeff Garlin of all people keeps Doug rushing through it to get as many rounds in as possible because he has "dinner plans."

The "Hollywood Said NO!" audiobook is a live reading of every script from the cast of Mr. Show, and it's excellent.
