I don't know where to post about it (and don't want to make a whole thread in TVIV) but Kroll Show was hilarious and is worth your time.

He was spectacular. I was sitting in the first row, dead center. He made eye contact with me a lot through out the show, probably because I was laughing and clapping so goddamn hard. I saw him in 2008 or 2009 at JFL in Toronto. He was on the same bill with Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, Arj Barker, David Cross, and Todd Glass. At the time I didn't know who Glass or Mulaney were, but they (with CK) were the top three of the night for sure.

The first time I saw Louis CK, I was at the early show, and he let it go longer and made the late show people wait outside, because we were the dedicated ones who bought tickets to the first show. (The second show didn't get added til the first one sold out.)

Pete's new special is hilarious. I saw him do pretty much all of the material last fall in Toronto (twice) but on the special it's just slightly more polished. He really laughs at himself a lot though.

This comment is not directed at anyone in particular: In the aftermath of the West/Norton thing the other day, West has been getting dozens/hundreds of "you're too fat to rape" / "maybe a good raping would shut you up" comments on her blog, Twitter, etc. If that doesn't indicate a societal problem to you, I think you are nuts

My girlfriend was interested in it so we watched about three episodes. We watched one that had a long sketch where the punchline was just fart noises over and over again. I think that was the last one we watched.

I get that some people are burned out on the rape joke thing, so if you are, skip my post. Jim Norton has an article up today about people sending rape threats to Lindy West after their debate on Totally Biased the other night, I thought it was pretty good. Also, apparently Kurt Metzger started making fake Facebook/comment accounts for Lindy West and then decided to have a meltdown about it?

I saw Jen Kirkman tonight! I just read her book this week, so a lot of the material stuck out to me as stuff from the book, but it was still a really great show, lots of fun. I haven't been to a live show in a while (note to self, go see more live comedy). Also, read her book! It is funny.

Nah, Kirkman had different openers for each of the 3 shows she did this weekend. My openers were Eddie Della Siepe, Evany Rosen, Kristeen von Hagen. von Hagen was okay but the other two were great.

I hope some/most of that tour gets incorporated into JFL42. Speaking of which, they're apparently announcing this year's 3 headliners by 9am tomorrow... e: headliners are Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, and Family Guy Live. Underwhelming, but the rest of the line-up announced so far is awesome, including John Mulaney, Maria Bamford, Marc Maron, Kyle Kinane, Hannibal Buress, etc. http://www.jfl42.com/the42/ The Berzerker fucked around with this message at 12:48 on Jun 18, 2013 |

I saw some of the videos on an article earlier, either Laughspin or Splitsider or something, and it was literally 100+ people yelling RICK JAMES BITCH or I WANNA TALK TO SAMSON or whatever. Honestly if you've read Steve Martin's biography, it kinds of has a similar tone to it. He eventually got so big he was playing giant stadiums and the crowd would just scream out WILD AND CRAZY GUY or whatever at him and it was a big factor in him starting to hate doing stand-up.

I really think you have to be a fan of theirs to "get" them and their style. But they didn't make it any easier on the people who hadn't heard them before by choosing a bizarre setlist. They have a lot of pretty easily accessible songs (The Humans Are Dead is one that I think pretty much anyone can appreciate the humor in), but they did songs like "Song for Sally" and a really bizarre version of Rhymenoceros vs Hiphopopotamus. I am a big fan of FOTC but I think you have to see them in the right circumstances. This festival seems like the worst sort of place to see them, I've seen them twice and once it was in a huge venue and it was just horrible. The first time I saw them was in a small venue and it was amazing.

Every person I've talked to about it suggests going to a couple of open mics so that you know what you're walking in to, so I guess do that. JFL42 starts this week and I have plans to see Sarah Silverman, Bill Burr, Andy Kindler, Marc Maron, John Mulaney, Maria Bamford, Kyle Kinane, and a ton of local comics and whoever else I can get in to see. It is going to be awesome.

I saw Sarah Silverman on Friday and then last night I saw two shows, one with Picnicface members and the other was Bill Burr. Tonight I'm seeing some local Toronto comics (same with tomorrow, I think) and then Tuesday I'm seeing Marc Maron, Wednesday I'm seeing Maria Bamford (and hopefully Kyle Kinane), and Thursday I'm seeing John Mulaney (and hopefully Hannibal Buress). It's an insane week.

Yeah, she did a bit of new stuff, she was clearly still working on some things. It was that, mixed with stuff from her latest album. Solid show. The second time I saw her she was being a panelist on Match Game but it was also great.

braden posted:Anyone seen Bill Burr lately? Can't wait to hear his new material! I saw him at the end of September at JFL42 in Toronto, he was spectacular. Theatre was sold out and everyone was dying laughing. Burr is great. Speaking of handling hecklers, at the 2012 JFL42 I saw Todd Barry do a small midnight show. There were probably only 50 people there, max. One guy wasn't heckling but he was giving his input on jokes, or occasionally just repeating punchlines. He was by himself and was clearly drunk. The openers mostly ignored him but Todd was not having it. He told the guy that he was going to ask him to move to the back and to relax and quiet down, but the guy got belligerent and wouldn't leave the front row, so club staff came to escort him to the back. Keep in mind that Todd didn't even ask for him to be kicked out, just wanted him further back where he wouldn't be so disruptive. Anyway, the guy loses his poo poo and starts crying. It was hilarious, because on one side you have a crying drunken idiot, and on the other side you have Todd Barry, who is the calmest, most relaxed person on stage, making fun of the guy without coming across as angry or anything. Frankly I think Todd found it funnier than the crowd did. It was awesome.

Probably a combination of this and Bob Zmuda begging for them to do literally anything that helps keep his name somewhat relevant.
