And it takes me about 15-20 hours of solid word for the timing and editing (the variation being mainly how much text in the episode has to be dealt with). If I have free time, I try to do it in two days with one day dedicated to getting all the audio together and another day dedicated to doing all the visual "effects" in the subtitles and cleaning up any problems before I hand it off. Obviously that number goes way up with quiz and adventure game episodes.

The hardest part of translating GCCX is bridging the culture gap and sometimes you just have to go with what gets the same concept across to the viewer rather than the meaning. This is especially true with the jokes and memes. Keeping in mind that you are trying to entertain people with a comedy show helps. Good luck! I hope your team finds it as rewarding as we have!

Pastry of the Year posted:TV-NIHON translated that episode about a thousand years ago and it's been about that long since I watched it. I know (I think?) SA-GCCX had a policy about not re-translating episodes that other groups had already done, so your viewing experience may vary from your expectations. We don't have a policy per se, just less interest in redoing things that have been done before.

It's a funny thing how the early seasons always end in a sentimental way, which I guess was due to them not really knowing if the show would be renewed for a new season. (which is not an issue anymore) Well, they knew the show was finished at the end of certain seasons which is why those episodes end with a "Thank you! Maybe we'll get to do something like this again as a special sometime!" Two of the seasons were cut short which is why the Link to the Past episode is actually a two parter edited down to poorly fit into a single episode. The episode that ends with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" has an epitaph for the show. I think the third time the show was canceled and came back they stopped that.

In the earliest episodes, most of the challenges take place in a conference room at Arino's agency. By season three, they mainly shoot in a spare room at the production office. Since they're working from locations that weren't intended as television studios, there's some odd quirks that happen.

The best options are the approachable ones. The "I know that game! It's hard!" where Arino gets knocked around but manages to pull it off. Ninja Gaiden would be a good choice, though the segments had to be separated out.

But after that the Turtles started airing in Japan under the English title so the next two 8-bit games were released as Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles only with the numbering off by one. They did not get the 8-bit Tournament Fighters, though. In the 16-but era, Turtles in Time was released in Japan, though IIRC it used a different title than TMNT. Hyperstone Heist got a similar release.

It literally means poop and it's used as an expletive, but it's a lot milder than "poo poo". I recall in one episode Arino goes "kuso" in front of some kids and I switched the "poo poo" in the script for "crap" since I felt it was giving the wrong impression in the scene, though zari-gani disagreed strongly with that feeling that I made it more nasty. (Not trying to stir anything up on this: language is vague, people interpret phrases differently, and there isn't a right or wrong option. This was a situation where zari was the translator and scriptwriter while I was the editor and sometimes there are going to be disagreements there.)
