Klades posted:Most, if not all, AVGN episodes are on NicoNico subbed in Japanese. They mainly love AVGN because of his facial expressions, but they also admire his collection and knowledge of games. The people that do translate his stuff tend to get around some idioms for the sake of the audience, but the overall message is made clear and the humor isn't totally lost. That and they seem to love the vulgarity. His more popular videos go past 100k views, like the Atari Porn vid, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, the CD-i games, and Cheetahmen.

There is also this impressive moment in the Game Glitches episode where he talks about how he beat one of the final bosses in Mega Man 5, despite a glitch where the boss's body appears still, but the moving platforms are invisible and can still hit Mega Man. Whether or not this could be considered "skill" is up to you to decide, but it does show perseverance in his part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdWRTleizFU#t=4m34s

Considering all the love Arino and the GCCX crew have gotten in Los Angeles, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to realize Americans are finding a way to watch the show through "dubious" means. They did seem cool about it though and loved that the show was getting so much attention. I guess as long as the majority of the Japanese don't find out(or at least keep it hush hush) about these uploads, then everything is cool.

That and I'm pretty sure they were put off after the Fatal Fury Special challenge. They specifically did Fatal Fury Special because it was Nakayama's last day as AD, since it was his favorite game and kept suggesting it backstage for Arino to try. Otherwise, I would say the Neo-Geo games still being expensive to this day would make for the biggest reason why GCCX doesn't feature them.

Caitlin posted:I'm pretty sure if you were to translate it as poop it would be unko instead, which doesn't have the expletive context associated with it at all. This really depends on context, the type of show, or even "if the producers think it's worth censoring". Sometimes "unko" even as "poop" will be censored, sometimes not. I've even seen "mouthwash" be censored one time during a Gaki no Tsukai segment, where Matsumoto was cooking spaghetti with toothpaste and mouthwash. Japanese censorship can be weird like that, because people are very fickle on what they think is appropriate.

I was satisfied with how they portrayed us Americans, too. I mean, all I could think of was "Yup, that's how I expected us to be like to Arino"(in a good way), and he treated us way nicer than how he usually treats arcades in Japan, even. I mean, that could possibly be because fans on the inside knew beforehand of his visit, but that's still nothing but more good press for GCCX. And you didn't miss much with the DOOM cart not working. The SNES port was terrible, only slightly better than Wolfenstein 3D.

There were great moments in the Parappa episode(Arinoppa), but to be honest it was probably one of the very FEW times that I genuinely got irritated by Arino's terrible playing. I guess it was the music game fan in me that hated how he tried to half-rear end his way through the game, not to mention the very anti-climactic finish. I also personally loved the Fatal Fury Special episode, but I can also see how it could be one of the most hated. Nakayama is one of my favorite ADs, and it felt like a treat to see him open himself like that to Arino, teaching him how to play and talk about how it was his favorite game.

They'll either move the prizes around for you, or give you a couple of hints if all it takes is figuring out where exactly to move the crane. They haven't gotten into much of the details, but it looks to be like a standard episode of GCCX: Arino's Challenge with some segments mixed in...only as a movie. Producer Kan says that he's hoping this movie will reach "the people that remember and loved the Famicom age", which could mean a broader audience outside of the standard GCCX fanbase. Even Arino doesn't know exactly what they have in mind; he's obviously going to be the star(while jokingly proposing to actors about taking his "Arino Kacho" role), but he just sighed when it was mentioned "there's going to be a Challenge". So far, it looks like one of the biggest speculations from this is "What game are they going to use?"

He'll do fine without them anyway, you only really need the Dash and the upgraded X Buster(which you can also get from Flame Mammoth's stage after getting the Helmet). Now if he figures out that the upgraded X Buster enhances all the weapons' shots, I'll be impressed. The C.Sting enhancement will make life so much easier for him in the Sigma stages.
