I still have no idea what's happening in that game, but there's always something fascinating about crossovers, especially over-the-top ones like that. Smart of them to try something like it, with the niche success of SRW.

So yeah.

I know it's a shameless, shameless fanservice game...but I really wanna play it. And I hate myself for it.

I know this is old, but those pre-orders are bad. Like I think the one that gets you the item shop early on would be good for speed-runners, but the rest are bad.
Red orbs eventually become useless (generally after 1-2 playthroughs) and the secret item finder is useless because gamefaqs exist.

You'll take that back the second you hear Dubstep and Combichrist repeated over and over.

While I think I can accept Combichrist after a while, just like I did with Lock and Load, Dubstep is gonna be intolerable. I just don't like and don't get it.

Yeah, of the two this is more tolerable than this.
Which is not to say I really like either, that much. The Combichrist one at least kinda fits with...well whatever the hell they doing to DMC. The second one is just terrible. I really didn't mind the cheesy vocal stuff in DMC 3 and 4 - it was sporadic enough that it wasn't in all the tracks, and did get the blood pumping.

I do hope they have some decent boss tracks though, not the garbage they pumped out over that "Review" video. And DMC in general has pretty kick-rear end boss tracks, even DMC2.

Really though, is there anything worth getting right at the start of the game? Of all of them I'd say the Orb Bonus is probably the most useful, since extra orbs is never a bad thing. The downside is, like you said, it's pretty redundant after about 2 playthroughs. The downside to all of them though, is fugly weapons. Whether that's a step-up or down from generic weapons is a matter of debate.

DmC will be playable at Comic-con, and there'll be another Q&A session, where the aim of the game is for the developers to avoid answering as many question as they can.

Night Club Demo

http://www.twitch.tv/capcomunity/b/335334788

Summary:

*Game appears to keep track of...a white blob*, and the red orbs when you kill enemies. * Possibly how much Health you gain from beating them dropping green orbs? I honestly don't know. Actually, it remains static, so it must be something else.

* The premise of the Disco level is that Lilith will set you challenges such as-

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FAAAACCCEEEEE

* "Lost Soul" hidden collectables that will increase the mission completion bonus.

*
SATIRE

* Blue and red platforms, that require the player to hold down the angel or demon trigger to not take damage on that floor. They sometimes cycle through them in the arena.

* Hair chat incoming!

That loving skunk patch is back. Couldn't let it die with the 2010 trailer, could you NT?

* Other challenges include "beat enemies before the clock runs out", trigger specific platforming, and the usual "beat all the enemies to unlock the door"

* Storywise, Dante has come to the night club to find his Generic Love Interest who has been captured by the demons. My guess is that he's going to kidnap Devil Jackie Stallone and use her in the trade off to get back Generic Love Interest.

* Usual items seem to return - vital stars and devil stars, etc.

* Considering how sluggish the enemies are, and how quickly they die the stream must be on easy mode.

* It's very hard to hear over the crowd, but this is perhaps the only time that the very disco-esque music fits in well with the environment.

* The shotgun is named "Revenant".

Whoever though this was a good idea needs to be stopped. This is NOT how you do satire.

I also hate bitching about poo poo like this, but the level looks much worse in action. When we had quick cuts to it in the trailer, it looked really good. It had a vaguely non-euclidean dance party thing going on, especially with those green pathways.
Now that I see what it actually look like, and that those green pathways just lead from one cubeblock battle to another, the effect is much less impressive.

I'm hoping they bring their brand of satire to the evils of commercialism, only for them to then go "buy our game". That would make my loving day. It's a shame that all the story stuff leaked so far just reeks of the writer thinking they're super clever and edgy, when in reality it's laughably bad.

I'm sorta in agreement with Azure Horizon, it looks pretty cool, all the effects and everything, and it's nice to see them trying to vary up the platforming more. The downside is that the combat is still pretty meh, even with all the many refinements, and the platforming still kinda...well not really that impressive.

I dunno. A modernized Vergil wearing a fedora and having a cane and poo poo really doesn't seem all that farfetched to me. He's always been a sort of polar opposite of Dante, and since New Dante is all "PUNK ROCK AND BEING CRASS AS gently caress, YEAAH", it makes sense that New Vergil would want to dress "classy" and all that.

I'm not saying wearing a fedora makes you classy or anything (especially not these days, what with all the internet-dwelling neckbeards wearing them), but I can see what they're going for.

I think the problem is that the face shape doesn't really suit it. And it looks weird against his already bizarre overcoat thing.

And that's a thing that puzzles me about his redesign. It looks like he's missing part of his coat - I feel they should have kept going with it, and at least make it more even.

[e]: MORE STUFF!

Someone's uploaded a video of a glitch they had with the Poison fight, where the "pull" trigger doesn't work, and the boss does nothing.

Mundus CA

Looks like some grumpy old grandpa.

There will be a demo coming soon, and a playable Vergil "will not be on the game disc only Dante", which is suggestive of DLC.

[e2]: Someone's review of the latest version of the demo:

quote:

The demo for DmC featured Under Watch (being the tutorial level in the beginning of the game) and Secret Ingredient (the boss battle with Poison). I was lucky enough to play both scenes on the 360 version since they were the ones available upon being next in the queue.

Visuals: Ninja Theory is known for their well crafted environments, motion capture details, creativity and it definitely shows. The highlight of this demo was how outstanding the visuals were. Even at 30 fps using the Unreal engine, the world of limbo is absolutely gorgeous in a grotesque and sexy way. The colors of the environment are rich and the details in the environment tells us how much effort they put into making the environments look so life like. How the world shifts and morphs around me gave me goosebumps. The idea is inspired by Inception and its surely a nice inspiration for such a game. Bottom line, DmC looks outstanding!

Gameplay: I'll try to be as objective and to the point as I can here for there is a lot to be said. Ask me anything I didn't cover and I'll do the best I can to explain. To begin with, the gameplay looks like Devil May Cry but the controls are Heavenly Sword with a jump button and DMC as the theme. If you disagree, you're only lying to yourself. I found myself trying to lock on constantly only to end up using the evade button (which are the right and left shoulder buttons btw). HOWEVER, this isn't a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Personally, I'm willing to learn and master this new fighting mechanic. Its pretty complex, interesting, and becomes fun when you get the hang of it. For original franchise players who jump cancel, lock on constantly, and string their moves fluidly like I do, we have to basically relearn how to play Devil May Cry the Ninja Theory way. This is where the divide of players will most likely occur for sure.

The platforming does not feel forced at all. Rather than being a "from point A to B" obstacle, its pretty natural with the world of limbo. Over turn was a nice demo that had both even platforming and combat without having too much or too little of either. It was "just right". I look forward to gliding and grappling around limbo next year.

I also want to add to this 30fps controversy because it is actually something worth mentioning. After playing the demo, there was definitely a feel of inferior combat fluidity versus the last four games (30fps vs 60fps). It wasn't overwhelming to notice but this game would play much better if it ran at 60 fps obviously. With that said, I think I'll wait for the PC version. Alex Jones stated at the discussion panel that the PC version will run at 60fps so its definitely the best choice to go PC over console in this case. Yes, Alex Jones CONFIRMED DmC on PC will run at 60 fps. Go figure.

The ranking system is job well done in my book. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to get a SSS rank. An S alone was somewhat of a challenge but I managed it during the Poison boss fight. The damage taken during that fight was DmC difficulty worthy. i didn't think I would but I died on my first try with Poison. It was mostly due to not being well acquainted with the controls but it just goes to show this game isn't asked to be beaten easily.

Overall, this game is a solid by for me on PC. The console version plays nicely at 30fps, don't get me wrong. I would just rather enjoy this game with my power rig rather than a console."

quote:

"At the panel discussion, they told us about how Capcom Japan came to Capcom America to re-invent Devil May Cry from the ground up. Dom Matthews from NT went through a power point presentation on how they approached the re-imagining of Devil May Cry. What bothered me the most was how they tried to define "cool". It was such an awkward moment where they could've just said "We want to reflect contemporary fashion, music, and media culture from the West rather than the East in DmC." Rather than admit to what they are actually doing, they took the condescending route and said "We needed to show coolness in the west. Because in the East, their cool is so flamboyant and too Japanesey. Western people like Western stuff. Eastern stuff isn't cool." They even put OG Dante photo shopped into a still shot scene from Fight Club to get their point across! LOL"

Hey, Notzaar, do you want the character pictures and demo vids, etc for the OP?

"Dante is the protagonist of the new, contemporary game in the series. He is a demon-angel hybrid who lives as demon hunting vigilante. He is counted by the officials of his hometown of Limbo City as a member of an organization of "terrorists" and is being pursued by both national and worldwide authorities. Dante himself is a young and rebellious social outcast. He lives and fights in Limbo City, where demons seemingly influence every aspect of the world and the social condition of the humans living there."

"Kat is a former runaway that joined The Order very early in her life. She is a medium and a gifted psychic who can see into Limbo, the demon realm, but not directly interact with it in the way that Dante does. She is the right hand girl of the Leader of The Order and devotes her very life to him, often putting herself in grave danger to gather intelligence from Limbo.

There is a sweet innocence about Kat’s world view and logic, but when it comes to her specialist subject, the demon realm, she is an undoubted expert. Kat is The Order’s ‘eyes and ears’ and is tasked with guiding Dante on his mission through Limbo."

"While Dante was admitted to an orphanage run by demons as a child, Vergil was adopted into a rich family. Highly-gifted, Vergil wrote a security encryption program that made him a multi-millionaire before he was even out of school.

Vergil’s parents both suffered at the hands of demons, which is something he intends to take revenge on them for. His mother was killed at their hands while his father has been enslaved by them. He now uses his wealth in order to research and combat demons, and is described as calculating character that makes strategic decisions without letting emotions get in the way."

"Not much is known about him at this time, other than Vergil refers to Sparda as Mundus' most trusted lieutenant as leader over the demonic forces, wresting control over 9,000 years ago. He seems to control Limbo City from a seat of power in both the demonic realm, and the human world, watching the city through the CCTV system connected to a wall of video monitors in his large office."
