KH2 on the PS4 feels like magic. It’s insane how much fast load times affect my enjoyment of the game compared to when I played it on the PS3

I've been trying to fight buying a game that I already own on two separate discs AGAIN. Please don't say things like this.

I'm actually doing Critical Mode for the first time because being able to just instantly pop back into action with almost no loading makes it so frustration free

the ps4 version is worth it imo. 60 fps is glorious and the load times were utterly horrendous for BBS and KH2 and it's all fixed now

Yes, and it's so convenient to have six games (two in movie form but whatever) on one disk. Join us, SonicRulez, you know you want to.

A japanese KH2 player found out recently that you can beat the 5th, 7th and 10th Mushrooms on level 1 without stat boosts, which is really cool since a lot of players thought that it was impossible w/o stat boosting. Time to get gold crown on the level 1 file I guess

Soon all video games will merge in the KH PS4 collection. It is inevitable. Eventually the entire world will become an HD ReMix.

After just clearing through Mushroom XIII for the first time, I have to say it's almost poetic that the absolute worst of the bunch is No. VIII, Axel's representation.

You mean poetic irony, right? Because Axel rules.

He's pretty much the worse character in the franchise, honestly.

This is a silly thing to say considering we have nothing characters like Luxord that exist.

The way I see it a nothing character is better than a bad character. And at least Luxord had the decency to barely appear to counteract how boring he was.

KH has characters so boring they literally retcon themselves out of existence, Axel is in no way worse than them

Things that are good about Eraqus:

- His visual design

- Mark Hamill

edit: tbh these two things are enough to make me want to see him again because lol if you are playing kingdom hearts for the strong memorable characterization of anyone but the villains

Tell me about it. I can't think of any other games I've played on console that had near-instant load times. Certainly not within the past few generations. It made me realize just how much load times have actually been hurting my enjoyment of games all these years. Just pressing "skip cutscene" and instantly being in gameplay is so good.

Ended on a prime completion percentage too. Good times were had.

So what's the deal with Flare Force in this version of the game? I tried using it on Xigbar on a whim and it killed him from like half health giving him no chance to do anything at all. Is it bugged or what because it's inappropriately strong

Limits are just that good, and Flare Force is one of the best.

Is that Donald's limit where he shoots the fireworks? That one is really good.

HGH
Dec 20, 2011
It's likely bugged as this is a PS4 thing. It doesn't strike me as something overt like the Knocksmash nerf. But Duck Flare, destroyer of worlds is pretty hilarious now.

EDIT: Both of Donald's limits are great cause they let Sora do his regular combos while Donald shoots stuff in the background instead of giving you commands, so that's part of why it's so strong too.

The american PS4 version of Duck flare is bugged to be way stronger than the other console/language versions. It's abused all the time in the new speedruns/data org stuff so that the American version is faster than the JP version, even considering the faster text in JP.

Don't like it? well...

So apparently Barbarossa has a Reaction Command that, in all the years since KH2 came out I've never seen before now. :psyduck:

It's a pretty cool looking one too, with Sora slamming down his gun and executing a sick counter.

I just used to finish him off. :black101:

Yup, Barbarossa has 2 reaction commands that are kinda easy to miss. For people who didn't know and are too lazy:

For the most part I only find myself using cure after tanking something so long with Once More it gives me ample time to navigate the actual magic menu. It’s nice having that slot freed for something more urgent

As long as your health is over 1 then Second Chance will save you so you might as well use a recovery item if you can, so that you can save your MP for more reflects

I played through KH2 roughly a billion times, so I spent every fight looking for every possible Reaction Command. You can finish off bosses with a fair number of them.

Not always the most efficient way to beat them but definitely the most stylish

Playing on Level 1 so no Second Chance or Once More. :v:

Still I've gotten really good at getting Potions in the menu.

going through 2.8 now

i still prefer the combat here to BBS' and flowmotion is a great addition, but i really hope that when KH3 rolls around the designers have learned to stop giving every enemy lengthy stunlock attacks

also lord have mercy the voice acting in these games is always so stiff and lifeless and it just gets worse with every iteration

e: how tragic is it that one of the few old-school VA's still alive to work for this thing is a loving nazi

Aqua and Terra’s VAs were always kinda wooden. It’s always really obvious when they bring in actors who don’t really do much VA work

I’m playing 0.2 on Critical finally and while limiting your MP isn’t a move I’m a fan of I’m having a really good time.

Willa Holland (Aqua) does get better as the game goes on at least and especially later in Fragmentary Passage.

One little thing about 0.2's design that doesn't get enough praise is how useful both the block and the dodge are and how altering the two brings good variety into your defensive game, even if only Phantom Aqua necessitates using both.
