b0nes posted:yeah that is a thing I don't like about FF. The suggestions in Chrome really speed up searches. On the other hand, it still can't search history efficiently. When I was using firefox I basically only bookmarked sites I might visit some day but not often, since often visited (or recently visited) sites would come up by typing their first two letters in the address bar. Chrome does this too, to an extent, but it's just somehow not as good. E: Oh right, here's one for the OP: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/obciceimmggglbmelaidpjlmodcebijb Better History. There is literally no reason not to install it, chrome's history sucks balls and this is ten times better. Groups multiple pages in a domain to a single entry, segments entries by time, etc. Amppelix fucked around with this message at 13:07 on Jan 3, 2012 |

Well I still have it. I'm not using the default theme though, might have something to do with that? Edit: Annnnd gone. Apparently I hadn't reset chrome in ages. Amppelix fucked around with this message at 12:59 on Jan 6, 2012 |

DrBouvenstein posted:Newest version of AdBlock was disabled because an update for it now allows it more permissions...when I go to enable, it now says it can access data on all website, and tabs and browsing activity... I'm don't know about this case, but "data on all websites" is an incredibly vague statement and many extensions have an explanation for what it means in their case in the description. It might say that if the extension, for example, needs to collect info on what's an ad on which site (this is completely out of my rear end but you get the point)

Is it just me, or did beta 18 break the SA webkit fix so that now text lines up incorrectly with images, smilies, etc. again?

Ok, is it me, or did the beta channel just screw up massively? Gifs aren't working, links don't color in when mouseovered, random parts of the page are missing, weird, or something, I can't even see what I'm typing in the reply field right now unless I somehow force it to refresh, like changing tabs (or just clicking with the mouse it seems)

gently caress, it was a flag. Of course it was a flag (GPU compositing on all pages)! Why didn't I think of this. Although it's weird that it just suddenly broke when it was doing just fine until now.

You can set up keywords in the settings. E.g. if you set wiki as the keyword for Wikipedia search when you type "wiki" followed by something you'll search for it on Wikipedia.

You should at least uninstall the webkit fix since that has finally been implemented into the forums proper.

I used to use Bookmarks Menu, but then something on it broke for me. It might work for you, try it! It has a nice interface, allows you to edit and delete bookmarks right there, etc. In it's absence I've been using Awesome Bookmarks which isn't quite as good and instead of a straight list uses a weird grouping thing but you get used to it.

If you're having any sort of problems with Chrome's history, just install better history and watch as the history function magically becomes reasonably useful! All your history-related worries will just melt away. I can't even remember what chrome's default interface looks like.

Well, I started chrome today to find out it had nuked all of my extensions, settings, etc. Thanks, chrome! Of course it wasn't that big of a deal, I just signed in and got 90% of my extensions back, but how does that even happen? ![]() And also, now I have to remember what non-store extensions I was using ![]()

Ghostlight posted:Are there any apps for getting the Recently Closed Tabs button back on the New Tab? Google's response has basically been "now you can use the menu to get to that!" and I don't really want to use the menu for it when I could just ctrl+t and click. I mean, it's not like they're running low on useless white space on the New Tab screen. If your question is "can i do X on the new tab" the answer is probably speed dial 2. You should use speed dial 2.

I don't think tags exist in it, but it's really handy as a quick tree popup and I could never go back to a bookmarks bar after using it. You could probably combine it with a more robust bookmarks manager.

Does anyone have any reasoning for why an extension that modifies the bookmark menu would need to e.g. read everything on the page or have access to my history? Or know of an extension that doesn't need permissions beyond "read and change your bookmarks"? I use Neater Bookmarks which works fine, and the author has this to say about permissions:
Gorilla Salad posted:Good lord! How do normal people manage to use YouTube and not go mad? I also got this, but then after using youtube with no blocker the skip ad button is always there and you only need to watch a maximum 5 seconds or so of the ad. So what's actually happening is that the blocker is partially functioning, and it's blocking... the skip button.

I'm also having a problem with uninstalled extensions coming back; however, my other computer I've logged on in is at my parents' house a very long way away. Is there anything I can do about the syncing without just straight up going there and messing with the settings? Or is it possible that it isn't even that, because I don't think anyone's logged onto my profile on that computer since I last did so?

Is there a way to remove my theme color in windows 10 from the top bar, without using a chrome theme? Mine's a searing orange, which I like everywhere except when it's filling the top of my screen constantly.

biznatchio posted:There's a setting in Windows to not apply the accent color to title bars. Chrome won't use if if you have that setting set. It also won't apply the accent color if you're using a Chrome Theme, since it'll use the theme colors instead. So there is. I've definitely never touched this setting so either it didn't exist when I last looked at them, or it became automatically toggled off at some point.
