Idk how the gently caress they did quaristice mainly on the old Elektron devices, Im borrowing a friends machinedrum SP1 UW MKII, and loaded the autechre sysex from their quaristice tour and like, they definitely push the machinedrum to its limit and do things I had no idea were possible with it, but if they really did only use hardware on it I have no idea how they did like any of that stuff like fwze. Heres a little clip of me playing some https://twitter.com/burtchintus/status/1321047942518616067?s=21 its so fun, its like a private autechre concert circa 2008, but minus the melody.

Bad snipe, but OPNs new album Magic Oneohtrix Point Never is out Friday and Im stoked, he released a second suite of 5 tunes, this one is probably his most indie, its funny hearing like a rock/pop acoustic drum beat in an opn song. Incredible sound design as usual, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s2zqGnV5GTo This one has The Weeknd and its my least favorite, it sounds the weeknd more than an opn song and it sounds like The Weeknd trying good make a cheesy Phil Collins song or something https://youtu.be/g9x_3chVyW4 https://youtu.be/PttLnfRHeYI Love this one too, but its more like the older experimental stuff but with Nolan Berollin rapping on it? I like it, Ive just never heard of him, but I love the weird style of rap that a few producers sometimes do like opns collaboration with Ishmael Butler, or Jam Citys collaboration with Main Attrakionz. And these two sound like cool interstitial radio bits, like the first ep drive time suites cross talk I, I love the old radio theme thats constant in all these tracks https://youtu.be/rpfOp7NqctM https://youtu.be/I6CyY2dHa9I Also the new Actress is cool so far, just started listening.

Thanks to whatever the hell you people were arguing about, I have really gotten into In the Morse Code of Brake Lights. Any other TNP records to which I should listen in specific, or just gently caress it pick at random? Also the best Autechre is Tri Repetae obv

captainOrbital posted:Any other TNP records to which I should listen in specific, or just gently caress it pick at random? They're all good but the first three are almost perfect. I think going chronologically is fine in this case. I bought Mass Romantic on a whim in 2005 having not heard them at all before. I have never in my life fallen in love with a band quicker. It took like ten seconds. That title track just hits like a train - and it's such a perfect statement of intent. Still my favorite opening track to an album I think.

Yeah, chronological is the best for the New Pornographers. Their first 3 are as good as it gets, and while I love (mostly) everything that comes after, these seem to be the ones that everyone points to being the best.

I love Sign, but Plus is maybe my new favorite, I cant stop listening. I could never get into the first three or so autechre albums or basically most of their stuff up until envane is just weirdly dated and plodding to me, and I know thats like heresy to autechre fans so I might be a poser but I just couldnt ever get into them beyond a few tracks from each. Its mainly the drums, theyre just like too up front and bit crushed, and I guess thats what makes it dated sounding to me. Id rather listen to SAW by aphex twin or early boards of canada, even tho boc have a similarly dated drum sound now to me, but theyre still great. I like that the album covers for the new records look like red and green versions of Pokmon games, too: imhotep fucked around with this message at 00:56 on Oct 30, 2020 |

Amber is the only one I don't like so muhch just cuz of how dated it sounds. Incunabula sounds dated too but it's catchy, and 444 is a loving classic. But from Tri Repetae on it just sounds like Autechre to me. Untilted is their best album.

If you liked "Wings of Africa" you should check out some Rikki Illilonga's other albums, "Soweto" is my personal favorite. The band WITCH is really good too, though quite a bit different. I'm trying to find out if there's lyrics for this stuff anywhere, since none of my google searches turned anything up.

Spotify recommended a song by Bartees Strange to me, and I liked it. Then a few days later I saw that his album was named Best New Music over at Pitchfork. Listened to the whole album, and I really like it. He reminds me a lot of TV on the Radio.

Hi guys In an hours time at 9pm UK time (3 o'clock EST) i'll will be doing my usual weekly DJ set, Mistaken For Strangers, online over on Mixlr that focuses on 00s and 10s releases, with some new 2020 releases thrown in. Goes on for about 3 or 4 hours and there's always a good mix in chatting, plenty of nostalgia about 00s bands we all saw in our younger days. We also donate to a local food bank charity based on listener numbers, too. It feels like it would be something that might be of interest to the regulars in this thread. Would be worth checking out! Thanks guys https://mixlr.com/mstknfrstrngrs/events/mistaken-for-strangers-28
