I revisited one of my favourite albums from 2023: Nicole Dollaganger's Married in Mount Airy. It's very simple music with Nicole's vocals echoing over haunted soundscapes, but the production just makes everything click. There isn't a strum of the guitar that doesn't evoke mood. I like Dollanganger's vocals, too. She has a very sweet voice but the sorrow she invokes is real and hurts.

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
Neon Bible is the only album I truly connected with, although I also enjoyed Funeral and the Suburbs.

The rest isn’t great, except for some songs here and there.

It's really funny to go back and read some of the reviews of WE from 40-something critics who are the same age as the band's principals calling it the best thing they did since Funeral

The central theme of WE was "we thought about getting a divorce but decided not to." Hmm I wonder why???

same

I remember watching that msg concert on YouTube? or whatever they were streaming it on thinking "wow this is a moment"

edit: https://youtu.be/QH5YmETzZF4?si=IGtWcOlDp03sjsK0 this one, where is was like "wow one of my favorite bands made it"

I also thought that about LCD Soundsystem's last concert thing

Y’know, I did like WE when it came out. I probably listened to it a handful of times. I thought it was their strongest work since their first trio of albums. But after a few weeks, I just never listened to it again. And, looking at the track list, I only remember the sound of Lookout Kid.

I missed this in 2023, but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I tried to buy Neon Bible through their official site back when it came out. Figured best to support directly like most indie artists I would buy directly from them rather than a big box store. So I order NB and some other stuff on their merch store, and a few days later get this email back:

quote:

Hello Kramdar,

This email is regarding your recent Arcade Fire order. Unfortunately, we lost all of the Neon Bible CDs we had in an electrical fire here a few weeks ago. We will no longer be carrying Arcade Fire’s merchandise, so this CD will not be available in the future with us.

LOL

The new album by Aya, Hexed, is absolutely fantastic. Their first album, Im Hole, was great too, but this is on another level.

Really enjoying the new Black Country New Road album, but the production sounds quite flat, not very dynamic?

Also a big fan of the latest Richard Dawson album! Took longer to grow on me than his others, but it has its hooks in me now.

New album comes out June 6th.

Edit: Didn’t realize the video is some AI slop. Whatever, I like the song though.

Edit: Okay maybe it’s a critique of AI with those last couple cards at the end but I dunno. Why bother even doing that in the first place.

According to Pitchfork, it is some sort of anti-AI thing. But that didn't stop me going "ew" and closing the window as soon as I saw the AI slop. Weird choice.

I do like the song though! gently caress the Oasis comeback, this is what I'm here for

I had thought I had been listening to it for a while now, and was really digging it, thought it seemed short though. Didn't realize that he had only realized that he had only released one half of it.
