Shake the Sheets and Hearts of Oak are high points, but even Living with the Living and the Brutalist Bricks are good. Just realizing I have shamefully never listened to anything pre-Oak. Jeff Rosenstock is also great. Same with PUP. Morbid Stuff just hit me in the right way. Pkew Pkew Pkew are decent, too.

Electrelane seem to be emerging from a period of dormancy. This Some new music would really brighten up a lovely year. I was in love with them in college, and they kind of saved my life then too. DasNeonLicht fucked around with this message at 22:04 on Apr 18, 2020 |

also, the new Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever single is good. I feel this music video and Joe White's weary, shellshocked face on a spiritual level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB6_zFW4c30

The album is really good and I'm glad pitchfork got over their Score Cowardice for once. They love to hedge their bets by slapping "8.3 - Best New Album" on anything they're not 1000% certain will stand the test of time.

Yeah, Pitchfork has really weird ways of scoring. Basically anything 9.0+ is incredibly rare. Over the entire 2010s decade, only 53 albums hit that mark.

# ? Apr 17, 2020 19:28 |

I was browsing Pitchfork's 10's by year. I didn't realize how few there were, but was happy to say I owned quite a few of them. I think Bjork might have been the only artist to have two albums on it, but I could be wrong.

I find that anyone who allows for 100 possible review scores is bound to fall into that trap of always hovering around the 85% mark. You feel like you have to leave enough room for the Greatest Albums Ever at the top and it psyches you out. I really think anything more than 5 ranks is pointless.

Yeah, I think the 100 point spread is really odd. What's the difference between a 8.3 and an 8.4? What makes one noticeably better than the other. When I did reviews back in college, I had three - check it out, recommended for fans only, and skip it. Like, no matter how bad an album is, it's not like listening to a 2.0 is really going to be worth listening more than a 1.0.
