I decided to cook up a thread just for Purity Ring: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3491737 I'd think that's the last track we'll hear before the album drops, but a fine five-song teaser set it is.

I love Weekend and Imagine Pt. 3. Yeah, this was a fun album to listen to last year. These kids are young, too, so they've got all sorts of room for growth.

It's more Spoon than Wolf Parade, which might help it be a little more accessible, too, I guess? I'll also echo that the new Wild Nothing is alright if unspectacular, and the new Grizzly Bear is making its way around and is really quite good (as was the hope).

I see a couple bands/artists in that list that I like, but not sure if that'd make it worth it. Like Real Estate for example. I love their albums, but live, something's missing. Reminds me that I'd probably really like to see Jessie Ware at some point.

I gave Kill for Love another listen after a couple months off, and yeah, still doesn't really do it for me either. The Neil Young cover to kick off is fine, my ears just don't find any of the songs all that remarkable.

FoxxorTheRed posted:I agree with what you said about their lyrics: it's not as personal and they aren't as much a part of the Sprinsteen/heartland rock thing but I think that's just not what Japandroids are going for with their music. Titus and Gaslight are very much a part of New Jersey Americana uprising scene. I think Japandroids is more about just fun, unadulterated, noisey rock 'n' roll goodness and less about musical themes and the like. I don't know if that's accurate, but that's the vibe I get from them. I still definitely recommend seeing them. I see it more this way. Never really lumped Japandroids and Titus into the same category.

The new Local Natives drops this week, and it's absolutely worth your time. My favorite release of the month. Two solid singles in Breakers and Heavy Feet, some really pretty moments in Three Months and Mt. Washington, and a really strong second half as a whole. Top marks and all that.

Yeah "forgettable" is the word I use for just about all of it, minus Entertainment and maybe SOS In Bel Air. Maybe it's a symptom of a "bar too high" environment, or maybe that rationalization is even keeping it from worse reviews. I haven't decided which mine is coming from yet.

Mt. Modular posted:I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, but how do you folks feel about the new Cold War Kids album? I loved their first two (well, loved the first with enough goodwill to appreciate the second more than I should), but was really really disappointed by Mine is Yours. I like Dear Miss Lonelyhearts a bit. It's still not on par with the first album, and I feel like the band's expectations of their success is far beyond what they're likely to ever achieve at this point (though I hope I'm wrong), but it's still a vast improvement over MiY. Agreeing. I think it's the best they've done since Robbers & Cowards, even if they needed to take a bit of a departure from their typical sound to get it done.

Ton of people milled around and everyone was kind of "uh...what's going on here?". Daughter did the same thing, maybe UT is just cursed. Odd. They came back out and did their cover of Prince's "I Would Die For U" at the Webster Hall show.

Re Chvrches shows: I saw them at Webster Hall back in June, and while they weren't, like, excellent (I don't think Lauren's voice plays all that well live), the music was still a bunch of fun even if more than half the tracks they played were unheard at that point. But after the show ended and they had played their Prince cover as the encore, there were small circles of people actually breaking out DANCING waiting to file out of the auditorium. The energy they put into everyone was just nuts. So, naturally, I'm going to see them Sunday.
