So guys I'm going to the last Summer All Tomorrow's Parties this weekend and I'm pretty bummed.

Truly the end of an era finished off with a thread bare lineup but hey Deerhunter and the Breaders.

Anyone got any recommendations for something in the vein of Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, and/or Built to Spill. I've got everything by Yuck, Cheap Girls, Screaming Females and Hebronix which is what I'm looking for, but I haven't come across anything else recently and I'm craving some new crunchy guitar rock.

I'd recommend White Lung, Ought, Perfect Pussy and (a bit more experimental) Swans.

And the new Parquet Courts album is very reminiscent of Pavement in contrast to their previous album.

White Lung and Parquet Courts should be up you street.

Eh it's in my top 5 but I think it would have benefitted from cutting some chaff Suffering and Dissappearing are low points for me. An Ocean In Between the Waves and Red Eyes are some of my faves this year though.

I'm really enjoying the Tony Molina Dissed and Dismissed album, it's 12 tracks and the album as a whole comes in at just 12 minutes but all of it is awesome. The whole thing is on YouTube.

Equally enjoying the Avi Buffalo album and also the album from The Los Angeles Police Department very twee indie. The album is consistently great.

Los Angeles Police Department - "She Came Through…: http://youtu.be/mDlpMHrlknA

And the hugely long James Yorkston album which has some great highlights but could have 10 songs chopped out IMO.

Mac Demarco is a bit different musically but has writes similar jaunty lyrics. His latest album is very good.

Mac DeMarco - Let Her Go: http://youtu.be/Neu3_4MeGls

If you haven't already you might want to check out Steve Malkmus and the Jicks.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Lariat: http://youtu.be/CLJcE_dsT6E

The new Parquet Courts album is reminiscent of the scruffier side of Pavements music.

Parquet Courts "Black and White": http://youtu.be/hbFp1Q_Z8mM

E. Also Beck is a good songwriter has a huge back catalogue since the 90s but release a pretty good album this year..

Beck - Say Goodbye: http://youtu.be/PugIf_WlosA

Similar era bands that you might know of Blur, Sebadoh, The Apples in Stereo, Superchunk, Yo La Tango. All have similarities for different reasons.

Awesome, he seems like a pretty fun guy to be hanging out with!

The new Sleater Kinney album is now streaming on Pitchfork and NPR. Any first impressions? Won't be able to listen to in until after work and I'm curious apparently they have moved away from the poppier The Woods and gone back to the short punchier and scruffy style they begun with.

I've been enjoying the new album by Ghost Culture foot tapping electro reminds me a bit of Fujiya & Miyagi and Animal Collective with the soft spoken vocals, a bit more housey though.

S4C just released a documentary about Super Furry Animals, who are about to play their first show in six years in three days. It contains lots of old footage I'd never seen before and does a great job presenting the band's philosophy as well as making you realize just how underrated they are. The band narrates in Welsh, but there are English subtitles.

Just got home from seeing Future Islands here in Manchester. It's the third time I've seen them and the venues have been progressively getting bigger. This is a great thing for them and a just reward after four albums that I love and enjoy but there's definitely something jarring about being the only one in the vicinity who appears to recognise a song from the second or even third album.

Possibly the most hipster appraisal ever and I apologise - they blew the roof off the place and I'll never tire of hearing Long Flight or Tin Man live.

I saw them at Glastonbury and other than RTJ it was the most passionate crowd I went to, lots of people singing along and smiling. It was emotional and so nice to see them getting so much love, Samuel Herring, what a man.

I wound up downloading a bunch of Destroyer. I love Bejar's stuff with Swan Lake and New Pornographers, I don't know why it took me so long to give Destroyer more of a chance. Apple Music is really freeing in terms of my ability to try new stuff.

Also Built to Spill, which is another band I knew I should like but never really listened to.

Your next port of call should be Wolf Parade and Sunset Rundown.

Me and my festival buddies have seen let's eat grandma several times ironically because of their silly name and they do this very silly hair twirling thing mid way through their set and because for a while they were playing the first slot at every festival we went too.

It blows my mind that the new album is really good.

Really, holy crap that's not something I thought I'd see in 2019. Will definitely have to go and see them presuming they will tour with the new album.

If anyone has the time/inclination would appreciate some recommends off this lineup. It's a spotlight festival with a million new bands and for the first time in ages I don't know anyone other than CHAI, Charley Bliss and Little Simz.

The only real complaint I have of Pitchfork is that their "Best New Music" label only gets applied to albums that rate 8.2 or higher. I just wish they applied it to any album over 8, just because I don't always click on the reviews.

Why do I care? I use Pitchfork as a source to listen to new music, so sometimes I discover an album some time later that was ranked, like, 8.1.

They have a section for 8.0+ reviews last time I looked.
