Super Furry Animals haven't been on hiatus for three years now, but everyone in the band has been making music. Just this past week, Cian and Guto have put out songs from their own side projects.

Here's Cian Ciaran's "You & Me" off his upcoming solo release, Outside In: http://soundcloud.com/strangetown-records/sets/cian-ciaran-1/

And for something a bit different, here's Guto's band Gulp, which is the least SFA-like of all the new bands: http://soundcloud.com/e-l-k-1/gulp-game-love

I'm seeing Beach House in Miami Beach tomorrow night. I'm not a fan by any means, but my girlfriend really wanted to go. I hope they win me over. I'm not imagining an impressive live show, but we'll see. Out of all the cities in which I've lived, Miami and the surrounding areas have been the pits for live music. I take what I can get.

If you like/love Super Furry Animals, listen to Cian Ciaran's Outside In. He's SFA's keyboard player and he sings songs like "Cabin Fever," "Walk You Home" and "Mountain." I can't get enough of the album. It's the next best thing to an actual SFA album or another Gruff solo LP. He's also got another one coming early next year, so I've got that to look forward to.

Did SFA break up? I know they haven't had an album since 2009 and they've all had a bunch of solo stuff but are they active as a band at all anymore?

They aren't broken up, but they're definitely on hiatus. The thing is they're still all working with each other on their own individual projects. Both Guto and Daf play on Cian's album and Cian mixed songs for Guto's new band, Gulp. Gruff and Bunf are the two who've kind of gone their own way for now. Gruff is working on a second film in America at the moment and Bunf is doing all sorts of stuff that hasn't amounted to anything yet, but he's supposedly releasing a solo album on Daf & Cian's label someday.

Hopefully they get back together soon, but I'd be surprised if they have an album out before 2015. :(

Neon Neon is playing instrumentals from the new album tonight and it's being streamed live here: http://roundhouse.org.uk/live

The description mentions "special guests," so I figure it'll be more than instrumentals. Anyway, it's at 9:30 PM GMT.

Neon Neon is Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and Boom Bip, so it's worth checking out. They've also got Josh Klinghoffer in their band. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but apparently he was responsible for "Steel Your Girl" on the first one--so I'll say good thing for now.

This comes out for Pledgers in six hours. Otherwise, you can buy it online/in stores on the 25th. His first album is marvelous and I expect this to follow suit. He's in Super Furry Animals, but it seems like people only care about Gruff Rhys's solo albums/side projects. I recommend you seek out Cian's first one if you haven't. You can hear a few tracks on his label's Soundcloud:

S4C just released a documentary about Super Furry Animals, who are about to play their first show in six years in three days. It contains lots of old footage I'd never seen before and does a great job presenting the band's philosophy as well as making you realize just how underrated they are. The band narrates in Welsh, but there are English subtitles.

Gwenno (she was in The Pipettes, even after they turned into a different group) just re-released her album Y Dydd Olaf on Heavenly Recordings. It originally came out at the end of 2014 on a small Welsh label called Peski. The album is insanely awesome: atmospheric, Krautrocky, and entirely sung in Welsh--I think the final song might actually be in Cornish--without a single trace of the group that made her "famous." That's a good thing. I never liked The Pipettes. You'd never know she was in The Pipettes if I hadn't told you.

Super Furry Animals are to release their first recorded work together for seven years – a Euro 2016 single entitled BING BONG.

After reuniting last year, the band's first new music since 2009’s Dark Days/Light Years album, was recorded in Cardiff late last year and will be released on Friday, May 13 - a month before Wales kick off their Euro 2016 campaign in France.

Described as 'a reinvention of the totemic, communal anthem', further information on the single is to be announced in the coming weeks, with music, live performance and video remaining under wraps until the band conclude a series of imminent festival dates in the United States.

Put together by Kliph, the guy they kicked out of The Flaming Lips.

quote:

I'm really thrilled to have worked on these 2 new Super Furry Animals reissues that are coming out. This was a huge labor of love for me and I'm honored that the Furries asked me to help out and trusted me with their tapes and such.

The Best Of is a wooly mammoth of a 2 disc set capturing every single released to date along with deeper catalog tunes that the band and I hold in high regard. Being that it's supposed to work as an introduction to someone who may not be familiar with their huge catalog of genius work, there's nothing too crazy on there….but, for the diehards that will have to buy it just because, I snuck a couple of things on there that you will hopefully appreciate.

The one I'm really, really excited about, though, is the Fuzzy Logic reissue. For that one, we went back to the original 1/2" mixdown tapes and did fresh transfers of everything because analog to digital converters have come a long way since 1996. The tapes were in great shape and there wasn't a single dropout or anything like that anywhere on them. In addition to the original album, there are 35 bonus tracks, 24 of them completely unreleased. In all of my digging around, I found two demo sessions that pre-dated the recording of Fuzzy Logic which are included and also a live recording from the Phoenix Festival in 1996, which I don't think anyone's ever heard (at least I haven't seen it in the tape trading circles.) All of the b sides are there too, except for the remixes of The Man Don't Give A gently caress, which I deemed not as interesting as some of the other stuff, so those got booted. Donal Whelan expertly mastered everything from scratch and I am not even remotely exaggerating when I say this version is massively improved. It's got a fuller, richer sound and there's more dynamic range than the original, but it's still loud and punchy and rockin'. I will never listen to the original CD or LP again now that this vastly superior version exists.

I post this link mainly for my friends in the U.S. as I don't think this is getting a U.S. release. If you live somewhere these are being released, I urge you to buy them from your local mom-and-pop record store and show your support to them. (Or, if you're in the U.K., Spillers Records, longtime friends and supporters of SFA, does mailorder.)
If you're a digital person, these will also be available on all the usual digital retailers (though, again, I'm pretty sure not in the U.S.) and Fuzzy Logic will also be available in 96/24 high resolution for those who really want to hear it sound its best.

I tried posting this in the Metal forum, but they didn't seem to like it. Maybe its more indie rock than metal. Hopefully the indie people like it a little more, can't stand so many hateful comments anymore. I would call it psychedelic rock but indie rock might be the closer term for it. Although produced its all recorded in a digital studio. If any of you know what an Orchestron is, you can hear it throughout the second half of the song.

Its also got a shenai in it, which is an Indian reed instrument. You can hear right before the first chorus. Also its got a compound time signature, so it changes from 4/4 and 5/4
each measure. Other than that its the longest song I've ever made.
