But I've yet to figure out a better way to spend my time.

Any albums in particular? Thanks

For Modest Mouse, my personal favorite is We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank, but most people will tell you to listen to either The Lonesome Crowded West or The Moon and Antarctica.

Iron & Wine all sounds the same. You can start with any album.

There are technically two albums by Local Natives: Gorilla Manor and Orion Way, though the latter was released while they were still called Cavil At Rest. If you can track down Orion Way you should listen to it, but Gorilla Manor is better.

I've been on an Indie Rock/Pop/stuff kick recently and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any bands that sound similar to any of the following:

The Wombats
Two Door Cinema Club
Tellison
Tall Ships
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
Stronoway

I'll second Frank Turner (obviously) and The Smith Street Band. Both are absolutely ace.

Also, I'll throw Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun in as a recommendation because he completes my triumvirate of folk/punk/thing bands.

I've been listening to Tall Ships a lot recently because they released their first album Everything Touching in early October. I fell in love with them when I first listened to their two EPs last year.

If you like rad guitars and layered music then these are the guys for you:

"Gallop":

"Snow":

"Words Are Pegs Upon Which We Hang Ideas":

Also listen to Vessels, Books and Murmurations.

I just discovered Felix Hagan and the Family. I can't even think how to describe it. It's theatrical (and self-aware) and entertaining and catchy and you should listen to it.

You can listen to their upcoming EP (out on Sept. 27) in full here, but I'd highly recommend watching some of their videos on youtube to get the full experience:

Aw yiss Chvrches appreciation. I'll echo what everyone else said that they're great live, even if Lauren's accent is incomprehensible in a concert setting.

Their album actually left me a little cold, but there were still several good songs. Strong Hand is only on the deluxe version but its their best song.

Everyone should listen to San Fermin. Put Matt Berninger in Sufjan Stevens with a female lead singer to duet with and you probably have pretty good idea of what it sounds like.
