Bronze Radio Return will be in town and tickets are $10. Worth pulling the trigger on that one? Hell parking will likely end up costing more than that because mass transit here cuts out at 11.

I think so -- I haven't seen them live, but the live versions of their tracks I've heard aren't bad at all. If you like them, you'll enjoy it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the new Goldfrapp album Tales of Us. I love it.

Yesss thank you Goldfrapp is the best.

Also, thanks to whoever posted the Blue Sky Archives, that's great.

To contribute, here are three bands that I feel like are worth listening to, and although they aren't super recent I don't remember seeing them in this thread.
First is an old song by ANR, Around You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggbEX_cgfDQ. One of those slow building rock songs that is catchier than it deserves to be.
Bronze Radio Return sounds like a band I would have liked in middle school, but still like. Similar to Lady Danville : https://soundcloud.com/bronze-radio-return/03-shake-shake-shake-mp3-1 . This song in particular, from their 2011 album, is a good pick-me-up.
Finally, Savoir Adore has definitely been around for a while, but I liked their 2013 album a lot more than any of the ones before. This song in particular is really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qH4ryqWze6U

Apologies if these have been posted before (I think the Savoir Adore song might have been posted when it first came out, but I guess it's not the worst thing in the world if it goes up twice).

e: Also, holy poo poo I just listened to the new Of Montreal songs -- I know I'm late to the party, but I'm so happy with them. I wasn't sure if Of Montreal would ever sound like this again.

I saw the hold steady a couple years back and they put on a pretty solid live show. Definitely the best thing to come out of my home town.

Here's an infectious, high-energy electropop song off the debut album of a group called Ed Zealous. It isn't a single, but it stands out above the ones that are, to me:

Really like this.

Meanwhile, here's some strong poprock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkPtxJ_Plyg&t=16s via My Darling Fury.

What happened to the West Coast...

I thought leaving the Midwest meant more concerts.

Speaking of, here's a singer from MN who sounds kinda like Sky Ferreira + Lorde a.k.a. really quite good: http://www.bestinnewmusic.com/2014/02/nina-yasmineh-ghost.html#.Uvq9xUJdUS6 .

Just got back from Trust's show and holy poo poo they're good. I don't remember them being mentioned yet in this thread, so here goes:

Trust is a Canadian synthpop band that has 2 albums out, TRST and Joyland. The lead singer has an absurdly versatile voice that really has to be heard to be appreciated.

My favorite song off their first album, and probably just favorite song of their's in general is Bulbform: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pqgv65j3uBo

My favorite song off their new album (which is a little lighter [I'm not good at finding words to describe music]) is Joyland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJO54bdmUCY

Also, to reiterate, their live show is so loving good holy poo poo, see them if they come through your area.

Last off, one of their openers was Mozart's Sister, a girl-pop duo that was pretty good too (the other opener's lead singer wore a fedora and um wasn't my favorite). One of their songs is on their bandcamp (which isn't my favorite of the songs they played, but hey) and I think it's worth checking out: http://mozartssister.bandcamp.com/

This isn't a particularly new release, but Haley Heynderickx's 'I Need To Start A Garden' has felt like a very apropos album for the moment, and there's some great songs on it. Definitely in the same general vein as like, Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers etc. but more melodic folk.

yeah no shade, it's solid. I've Got It All (Most) is the standout for me

I randomly decided to listen to Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle by Bill Callahan, which I'd tried a few times over the years but it never clicked. This time, some of it clicked! These two in particular are my favs

Thanks for linking those, I similarly have been going through his back catalog as Smog (for whatever reason) and I forgot how much I liked a lot of it. 'Let's Move To The Country' is still real solid as well:

Also, what a remarkable album cover he chose to put on that one.

Weird I've been on a big AF kick lately too and they're just as good to me as they were 10 years ago. I'm not sure I understand the dad rock title they've been given. Their stuff holds up against any indie rock today.

Fwiw I feel like the National has similarly been dad rock for most of the last decade but they're still great, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. I think part of it is just when a band first becomes popular in the mid-2000's at this point it's kind of inevitably gonna be a lot of dads listening to it at this point.

IMO Funeral, Neon Bible and Suburbs is among the best first 3 full length album releases in indie history

They really are great, I'm not as into their output post Suburbs but it really could just be I haven't listened to them enough.

I think for me I'd add Purity Ring to the runner-ups (if they count), although I know their second album was less universally liked.

Maybe it's kind of basic but Vampire Weekend honestly had 3 very good first albums as well.

E: ^ into it!

Idk who Kleerup is, but they did a song with Yuumi Zouma that reminds me of like, Arcade Fire circa Funeral. At least, the back half of this is like what I remember the back half of rebellion feeling like. It's pretty different than Yuumi Zouma's other stuff but so good:

Also as a more general note Yuumi Zouma's great:
