IDK where else to put this, but man, Rick Beato loving sucks and so do his channel and products. I dont hold a candle for Nirvana or anything, but poo poo, this sucks as a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWmqPc3hUZc

Trig Discipline posted:I like Billie Eilish and Nirvana both and am not offended by the comparison, but yeah this video is crap. A lot of music theory youtubers like Beato and I just don't care for his analyses or presentation at all. He's not very insightful and he talks like a music industry cocaine elemental. Jesus christ "music industry cocaine elemental" is...the best sentence I've heard ever and I'm in my forties and spent 15 year in the industry.

exquisite tea posted:Every Beato video I've clicked on just seems kind of rambly and meandering. Like I'm hardly a music theory expert myself but I don't think you need 25 minutes to explain why Coldplay's "The Scientist" has a catchy chord progression. I like Adam Neely for theory nerd stuff, the videos are well-edited and his research goes into some really interesting historical and cultural contexts. Neely is great even if he does go out if the way to be esoteric but I very much enjoy his work. Also came across this guy recently who has a lot if more practical theory... https://youtube.com/user/MusicTheoryForGuitar He is guitar, but his approach is pretty generalized.

Well probably dating myself here but back in the halcyon days of the early 00s amidst a wash of "indietronica" (boy that's a gross word that they eventually spinned into "IDM" ugh) a Norwegian dou of erland oye and sondre lerche had a band that was maybe a tinge late to the "neutral milk hotel / american analog set" party and too early for the "Appleseed cast" post emo slow core drone stuff called "kings of convenience". They split and did side stuff that wasn't bad bit went about as far as Travis Morrison records (read 0.0 on pitchfork). They got a new record coming out. https://kingsofconvenience.eu/#! It's like sad.norweigan bossa Nova or something. But great on a dreary morning and a hot mug of whatever.
