John K. Samson has a new album out. It's pretty much what you would expect, and it contains more Virtute songs and a kind of follow up to 'When I write my master's thesis'.

Other Winnipeg group Royal Canoe also has a new album out. Seems like they're using even more loops and layers in their songs. They're on tour now and just got their trailer stolen with all the gear in it. Hopefully they can get it back and keep the tour going.

They really can't top Bathtubs. Nothing even comes close.

Not a joke FYI

So I posted this in recommendations looking for something like him because I'm kinda stunned right now. He sorta reminds me of Talking Heads a bit, but Yasuaki Shimizu is the absolute truth. I can't believe he made this in 1982. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKY38Nx8dSo The way he shifts between different melodies/tempo kind of makes me think of something like Built to Spill's Perfect from Now On, or Charles Mingus when he's really wild. quadrophrenic mentioned Tortoise as well which also fits.

He has another album with the band Mariah that is equally as stunning (1983!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCW2p4HYPJg&list=PLhBPKoI-NFNRrGX09F7Q4sk2vKNiviIaJ

Here's another track that reminds me of Moondog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQFf8a1lhWQ

like seriously oh my god: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCVHT_pcNgo

Very. A bit more depressing and there isn't as much variety of musical styles compared to ILYHB or FF, but the lyrics are amazing as usual.

Wait when did his lyrics get good? His first album was atrocious lyrically; decent musically.

Very Chill electronic song. Reminds me kind of Jai Paul production but with clear singing. Some old Twin Shadow mixed in? Also very sad :(

Well they absolutely rocked and try to go see them this tour if you can. They play all the favorites, and primarily the more rock and roll songs to keep the energy up. Scott gets drunk and has great banter with the crowd. Also the closed with an encore of Keep Yourself Warm which had everyone singing. A+ stuff

I've known about it for a while and thanks for the link. I may hear a song or two. The problem with a leaked album or songs that are unfinished is you get an expectation of how it should sound and maybe, one day, he might release something (???) and I'd like to be surprised.

now that i've seen lcd soundsystem, i guess they're my new white whale. I did see the snails in a tiny venue and that show was a loving blast tho, so i've at least had a sam herring live experience (also the snails lp is better than the far field)

At Babys All Right? I was at that show too, they rule.

I also saw Future Islands at coachella right after Singles came out, and it was mind blowing. I was headbanging and dancing next to Jared Leto for the whole set.
