So the new Silversun Pickups album, Neck of the Woods, comes out tomorrow. It's up on their Soundcloud here.

I've only given it one listen so far, but I thought it was really, really good. It's a bit heavier than their old stuff and it's definitely a good sound. I need some more listens to really give a more informed opinion on it, however. I can say I am really digging Bloody Mary and Out of Breath, though.

Give it a listen!

I've had this on continuous loop since it came out, pretty much, and it's fantastic. Skin Graph, Simmer, Mean Spirits, and The Pit are highlights. I'm hoping they make Dots and Dashes into a single.

...not that it'll matter because the only alt/indie-rock station in Boston got bought by ClearChannel today :negative:

They recently released a preview of another song "Speed of the Collapse" on their Facebook. I'm really excited to get my hands on their new album. Has anyone seen them live? I've heard they aren't that great of a live band so I'm hesitant to get a ticket for when they come to my area.

They're good live, I saw them in 2010. I've got tickets for them in September in a venue with good acoustics, so I have high hopes.

That preview is such a giant tease: the song just gets started and, welp, it's done! YWY is a good if not great song, and Speed of the Collapse looks promising, so I'll probably buy the album.

E: punctuation is hard.

I didn't see them in this thread, but Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians opened for WFNX's final big concert, the Seaport Six, on Thursday. They got their start locally (Boston area) and probably put on one of the best opening acts I've seen in a while.

FNX has been giving them some play - specifically the song below - and I hope they get some notice elsewhere.

It's been really interesting listening to Matt and Kim evolve over time. Can't get "Let's Go" out of my head.

Didn't see it mentioned yet but Two Door Cinema Club released Beacon, their second album, over the weekend. It's a bit of a surprise: after they released "Sleep Alone" I assumed the sound would be pretty close, but it's more of a departure than I expected. Definitely feels like an evolution. "Handshake" and "Pyramid" jumped out at me on first listen.

iTunes is selling it with a bonus 12th track, too, and there's a deluxe version that includes 14 concert tracks. Worth a listen, especially if you liked Tourist History but thought it was a bit same-y.

Been listening a lot to the Joy Formidable, especially the two song that they've recently released that are on their next album. Wolf's Law and Cholla.

Got to see them live a week and a half ago as well, which was amazing.

Seconding this: their live shows are incredible and Matt Thomas is a show in and of himself.

Currently waiting for Metric to come onstage at the Orpheum and I have to say that the opening band, Half Moon Run, really impressed me. Their album apparently isn't available in the US beyond what they brought but if their set was any indication it's worth a listen if you can find a copy.

I got to see MS MR live this past Saturday and they completely blew me away. They remind me of Florence and the Machine, but with a richer, more foreboding sound. Will definitely be spending some quality time with them.

Full Circle live with the 3-4 different percussion pieces they run out there is the sort of thing that makes you sit up and start paying attention. They opened with She Wants To Know:

Compared to their first album, it seems there is more variety to their sound here. And even more of the fantastic rock sound they had on the first album. It's really good.

Also, if they have a show near you, make sure you go, they are absolutely killer live.

I'm so excited by how much their sound has evolved since The Big Roar; I guess secluding yourselves in backwoods Maine is good for creativity. And yes, if you can see them live, do it. Matt Thomas in particular is a blast to watch.

This is the first single from Lorde, a young artist from Auckland, New Zealand - and when I say young, she's only 15. I have been playing the hell out of her EP this week, and I think it's pretty solid :yaycloud:

EP and singles available here for free. Free!

This is pretty good! I'll have to give the EP a listen. Thanks for posting it!

It's decent. Sounds like a Phoenix song, certainly.

I like it but you're right: I could've told you it was a Phoenix song by only hearing it.

So MS MR has their first LP, Secondhand Rapture, coming out next week but they've put up a full streaming version of it right here: http://hypem.com/premiere/MS%20MR

I think it's pretty fantastic, "Twenty Seven" and "BTSK" in particular. I've posted about them before in here but they've basically got a darker, richer Florence and the Machine sound. Can't wait to see them again at the end of the month.

I saw Half Moon Run last night (still amazing live, go see them), and was really taken by the band opening for them, MisterWives.

They're releasing an album at the end of the month, but they've got some of their music up here:

http://misterwives.com/music-2/

"Kings and Queens" is the song that grabbed my attention last night, but the entire set was really solid.

MisterWives dropped their debut EP today. It's a 6-song EP; most of the stuff they've had on their Soundcloud, but there's some new stuff there. Mandy Lee makes me think of a peppy Regina Spektor for some reason. Definitely worth a listen.

I know they're kind of passé at this point but The Decemberists are playing their first live show since 2011 at Boston Calling in May and I'm surprisingly excited about it.

So I guess as part of their "hey we're still alive" performance at Boston Calling, Colin Meloy confirmed the Decemberists are working on a new album. The track they played was kind of same-y but I don't think that's too surprising.
