Yeah, every other character actually matures/come into their own...or at least has something like a character development arc. Elayne is just terrible, start to finish. She's probably the flattest POV character that isn't immediately killed off.

It seems like something they could work around over 3000 years

It was probably not a major priority. Ishy was the one calling the shots over the Black every 40 years or so. He knew that as long as the seals were unbroken, it was better to have a thoroughly infiltrated Tower that was still seen as a central authority on the continent, than one that was outright serving the DO (and thereby summarily assaulted and destroyed by the rest of humanity). Turned channelers are apparently cartoon evil, so the secret would have gotten out eventually. Plus same-sex Turning is much more difficult, from what we saw with Logain.

Even without Turning, it seems they had a full third of Full Sister tower membership. That's crazy.

All of that is true, IMO, but what's funniest about it all is that her cabal was propped up by a few black sisters and Mesaana. It's a great little bit of characterization. Danelle was one of the two possible candidates for Mesaana and Tarna showing up with more activity otherwise pretty much clinched it for Danelle.

It's great, too. A loving third of the Tower is under her direct control and she decides to personally take a hand.

Well, she saw an opportunity to replace a tough, respected, and competent Amyrlin with...Elaida. Regardless of her allegiances and intentions, the woman was a dumpster fire with leadership and dealing with others, even before Fain notched that to eleven. Can't really blame her for taking the opportunity--best Bad Guy action taken since Asmodean's stunt.

Also in LOC Rand mentions a third Aes Sedai faction ready to kneel to him. Which faction was this supposed to be? Alviarian's faction?

Pretty much. She sent him a letter saying there was a sekrit faction in the Tower ready to serve him. He doesn't really trust it (never trust Aes Sedai) but it lets him strut a bit (not that he needs any more reason).

Though what she didn't mention is that the faction was the Black Ajah, who wanted to serve him up to Moridin. Details, details....

I doubt that there will be an actual series reveal done, but more likely it's just an announcement that a) their lawsuit to regain control of the rights got to the point where the judge told the pilot-makers "Get hosed" and b) they are in talks with NETWORK/DISTRIBUTOR to do something up proper.

Ishamael should be played by someone like Marc Alaimo. And while we're at it cast Louise Fletcher as Elaida.

Sadly, time's ravages wouldn't allow for that kind of casting, unless you want to add a few centuries to Elaida or write out Aes Sedai aging.

Also, rewatch DS9!

But then you'd miss out on post-Healing Mat consuming huge stacks of bowls of rice and noodles.

It'll be all Perrin and Faile. All the time, with occasional cuts to Rand.

Yeah, well, probably doesn't help that the person who maintained it for a while is an ur-feminist who puts robocops to shame. That was one aspect of the series she was all too happy to pointedly ignore.

Ties into the "well, it was very progressive for when it came out.." line of thought. In addition to maintaining the FAQ she also did the re-read at tor.com for the WoT series (and is now doing a re-re-read, because....because). She's mellowed out in the last few years, but her earlier entries were pretty rant-y.

It doesn't. The Sea Folk are basically terrible, and they never amount to more than a floating migraine and weather plot device.

I'd say to power through if you can. Book 9 has some great stuff happening towards the end, and book 10 is pretty short (as WoT goes) and it isn't terrible when read back-to-back with the others. Book 11 is a return to great form.

If you want a way to speed through, just skip the chapter if it has the word "Perrin" or "Malden" in it. Goddamn those sucked.

Could also be Mordeth/Fain doing...things. he's shown to have some funky illusion power later, so it could be his doing. Early books=lot of retcon/ignored later stuff

Fain didn't manifest Mashadar-like behavior until much later than that inside-out fog incident. That was probably just a BoE, that Fain used to his advantage. He might have been more familiar with it because of the Mashadar similarities? But he wasn't so far gone as to be spilling out the stuff yet, or he'd have built his zombie army much sooner.

And he was totally a checkbox tick. Shame, but yeah--after Far Madding he was basically done as a character. Maybe Jordan had something amazing planned, but if so he either didn't document it sufficiently or just forgot.

Bubbles of eeeeevil were thought to be tied to the seals breaking, not balefire. Balefire had the Cracks of Dhoom Nothingness that were the hallmarks of its "world-breaking" effects. Probably didn't help BoE frequency though. By the time of the Killer Cards 3 seals were smashed, and Hinderstrap and the Aes Sedai camp incidents were at...what, 4, 5 broken?
