I just got a free transformer (the old 101 not the prime) and so far it's been pretty good. I've owned an iPod touch 3 since release and they are both pretty similar so it's easy to use. Is there anything I should get for it? I've heard you can get different app stores, are there any I should stay away from due to viruses or whatever? I noticed on my mums galaxy s2 that she has a task manager, is there any way to get something similar for my transformer?

ModestMuse posted:There's no need to use a different app store. The Android Market is probably your best bet. You also don't need a task manager, just press the two window icon to the right of the home icon. It will bring up your last used apps, and you can I'm actually posting from the awful app right now, it was the first thing I looked for after flash because I use it on my iPod I actually can't see an x on the recently used apps bar that pops up but I found out I can go into settings and delete stuff from memory. The reason I ask about the stores is because I wanted to update an app on my iPod a while ago and couldn't connect for some reason. I got a store that my friend recommended to me (Obviously I was jailbroken) that I later found out is the equivalent of piratebay for ios. I logged into the social thing that games used before apple made game center, and because I was dumb, I used the same password as my email. Next minute I'm getting spammed with ads for viagra and other drugs delivered to my home cheap from Mexico.

Frozen-Solid posted:On Android you don't even need to close apps, unless they're actually locked up. With Android, apps won't use background CPU usage/battery power unless they're actually doing something, and any app that isn't actively doing something will be automatically killed by the OS when/if it needs more memory. Ios does pretty much the same thing, but there are times I just want to clear out the recently used apps. I've noticed that ios doesn't remove apps it's killed from the recently used list though.

My power button has died. I can't put my device into standby, its hosed. Is there anyway to fix this without opening it up or returning it because I'd rather not do either. Google says that they are my only options. E: I can make it go into standby by not using it for a while and bring it out by plugging it in but thats retarded E2: I just did a factory reset and that did nothing either underage at the vape shop fucked around with this message at 09:56 on Feb 19, 2012 |

I'm sorry but rushing to push something out just to be first and loving it up is never acceptable and Asus should be recalling the earlier TFP's and giving their customers working devices.

Android needs to stop stuttering. My iPod touch 3 doesn't stutter on ios 5, but my transformer stuttered for the day I had it, my mums sg2 stutters too. I'll see if ics makes it better when I get my tablet back this afternoon but honestly it's a big turn off. It's probably the reason iPads sell over android tablets

If you don't give a poo poo about playing WoW and the other things you're prevented from doing on a tablet anyway, it seems like a better deal. How does the GPS on the TF101 work? Do I need an app/internet access to use it or does it work like a GPS you can buy for a car that plugs into the cigarette lighter thing?

The problem is that it's widescreen, so if you aren't watching videos on it, and are instead reading, there's no comfortable way to hold it. Your tablets hosed, not even my tf101 does this

Porkchop Express posted:The only thing I have noticed with my Tab 2 is that pressing buttons isn't quite as precise as it was on my iPad. (A problem I have noticed with android as a whole, even my Amaze does this.) For example when typing I can't hit squarely on the letters of the keyboard, I have to aim just a little bit above and to the right. (Come to think of it, I have to do this on every Android phone I have had.) I don't have this problem on my transformer but the buttons are bloody huge so it might be that. Have you tried a different keyboard? Google/Samsung may have hosed something up

You get the updates from Asus server after they make it work on the transformer and what they said in the other thread was "There's a button you press that turns off all the stuff Asus have changed". Obviously this doesn't include changes they've made to make it work with the hardware but apart from that it should be stock as far as I know. If you get the wifi version you get updates as soon as the manufacturer makes them available but if you get a 3g one you have to wait until the provider approves it

As long as you have a good signal and speed it shouldn't be an issue at all. It does pretty good with 720p, mkv files as well, I bought MX player to do it since it was the only hardware accelerated player out at the time (or the only one that mentioned it). I do have a 1 - 2 bar connection out of 4 (I think thats the max) where I normally use it but even if I let it completely load it doesn't work. The default player also sucks at 720p as well, but like i said I got an app that works 100% e: it kind of sounds like the patches aren't really being optimised/tested on the tf101 because of all the complaints, which kind of makes sense. Whether anyone will buy them or it will just be 99% piracy is another matter (or the ever popular "crappy app that no one wants so let me whine about it" path) Call up whoever you bought it from unless it was a close by store in which case walk up to the counter and tell them it's hosed and you want an exchange.
