Jake and Sherry are by far the most fun couple in the demo - gameplay and character-wise. I still haven't beaten that part in co-op, though. It's pretty hard for a demo and it's game over if your partner dies! The annoying part is the fact that the demo resets every time anyone dies so putting in a bunch of instant death scenarios perhaps wasn't such a smart idea.

Is it preferable to use a controller or M+K for RE6? It seems too lean pretty heavily on the shooting.

I've heard that a controller is better for huge amounts of QTEs there are in the game. If you get a handle on those (it took me forever), a mouse and keyboard are probably better for the pew pews though.

I heard you could disable QTEs though? There's no way I'm leaving them on in that case! I suppose you have to press certain buttons to perform special melee attacks but that should be OK.

I just played Leon's campaign in 6 for an hour and I think one problem with the game is that unless you're aware of all the different moves attacks and counters at your disposal the game feels very basic and rough. I felt like I played the game wrong and Googled for some tips, and the hidden depth of the game's controls is really something.

I finished Leon's first chapter of RE6 and really don't like how bulletspongy the enemies are. Shooting enemies in the leg like in 4 and 5 doesn't seem to work and the only reliable way to cause staggers so far seems to be using quickshots, and often Helena just performs her normal melee attack anyway because you have to get REALLY close to get the finishers to work. The window for counters is so tiny I've only managed to pull it off accidentally.

The combat just feels sluggish to be honest. Any tips for making the fame more enjoyable?

no seriously play mercenaries and try to get a handle on the controls because leon chapter 1 is one of the most scripted, restricted chapters in the game. though there are plenty because the campaign is trash. you gotta get a decent understanding of the flow of the combat in the game before it starts to click and not being able to dodge, run or experiment on how to stun enemies really hurts that a lot!

you can stagger enemies with headshots and armshots for a medium stun (quickshots, slides and the basic m1, m1, m1 melee combo all cause light stun) that usually instakills enemies. the animation for stuns in general isn't very clear though- look for any kind of pause from the shot on zombies rather than the pronounced stuff from re4/5. it's like the biggest systematic failing of the game that there isn't any animation like that for those stuns. also don't use the light melees (m1/atk without aiming) because they're kinda meant to be bad except against singular enemies as a resourceless kill.

Thanks, I'll give merc a shot. You can slide into enemies to stun them? What kind of attacks can you dodge with the aim+crouch move? I mean, does it have any invincibility frames?

EDIT: The game is at its best when it's as silly as possible, like when Helena performs OTT wrestling moves on zombies.

Any tips for RE2? I just beat RE and this game seems a lot harsher. I've made it to the station but the hallways are SWARMING with zombies. Shooting them all seems like a bad idea and it seems impossible to dodge them without doing the get bitten/shove them routine.

Also, I didn't expect lickers to show up that early!

I just beat Leon's campaign in RE6 and have started warming up to it. Thanks to everyone who gave me tips. The first two chapters were pretty boring and annoying but the pace definitely picked up after that. I also got used to the game's combat so I started getting A and S ranks towards the end. It took me 4 hours to beat the campaign according to the game so it's pretty meaty.

It was kind of funny how the other characters started popping up from nowhere when you got to China. The story is quite a mess and I never had any idea what the hell was going on, which might be solved by playing the other characters but I kind of doubt it will. I think the zombie ICBM was pretty creepy and the little drive through the gas cloud a pretty atmospheric sequence. I never played 5 or Revelations - but have the characters been experimented on or something? Leon was a pretty bad-rear end action hero in 4 but in this game he is practically super-human.

Just want to say holy crap RE6 is a very long game. It took me over 6 hours to finish Leon's campaign and Chris' chapter 1 took me one hour (one death). It's almost exhausting.

How long is Revelations by comparison?

Just finished Chris' campaign in RE6 and ended up enjoying it quite a lot! The enemy encounters in chapter 4 were pretty intense and fun, and the final chapter challenging enough to make me waste all my ammo and ending up defeating the last boss with the knife. I enjoyed the story better than Leon's as well - Chris actually almost had some kind of character arch! Piers sacrificing himself by injecting the virus was both bad-rear end and actually pretty sad. Even if the whole thing was really campy I ended up caring a bit for both characters, since the writers actually tried. Anyway, the last couple chapters had just the right mix of seriousness and campy bromance, and I'm feeling better going into Jake & Sherry's chapter. Halfway through the game now!

Jake's campaign in RE6 was pretty entertaining but the avalanche and bike sections were pure bullshit. The bike section a little less so once I learned to use the breaks more often. It seems like the campaign would be a nightmare in coop. The final boss fight was pretty fun but REALLY easy, especially compared to Chris'.

EDIT: It's not like they were impossible - it took maybe 5 or 6 retries to beat the avalanche section - but it's just really badly designed. It beats even the bike section in the first Bayonetta in terms of shoddy racing sections.

I'm loving rev 2 so far. After the disappointment of playing 6 at launch, episode 1 is so far hitting all the right notes for me. About the only thing I miss is on the ground shooting. Also are the cutscenes just using player models and a warm color filter? I like the gameplay cold tone a lot more.

I loved the ground shooting and dodging everywhere in RE6, but I guess the gameplay in Rev 2 is a bit more slow-paced? Is there a dodge? How's the melee when compared to the older games? I didn't play Rev 1.

OxMan posted:

I don't know that I'd call the pace slower, just different. There is a 4 way dodge you can activate with direction + circle. The melee is hitting R2 by itself for knife slashes, it's somewhere between RE4 and code Veronica for the feel, but you will be slicing a lot to conserve ammo. You also have L1 + r2 for quick use grenades and other offensive items.

Mr. Fortitude posted:

Yeah there's a dodge, it's quite a bit easier to pull off than Rev 1's dodge move too. You've got quite a bit of mobility, not quite RE 6 levels of mobility but not too far off it. The first episode is playing out like a remimagining of Code Veronica too, kind of interested to see where they take things.

Thanks! Sounds pretty promising to me. Is this just the first chapter with Claire or does include one of the bonus chapters as well?

EDIT: Does anyone know what the DLC costumes are? Not sure I'm willing to spend the extra cash just for some costumes and Wesker.

At least you can see the shinies as Claire. You only have to switch to Moira to make them pop up, so it's not that bad.

I thought Claire's episode was pretty good and tense, but Barry's was too easy in comparison. You can just blaze through that one. The references to earlier games got a bit out of hand as well. It was funny when Claire references the sandwich line and Moira gets pissed off. Barry going "HE'S INSANE" made me chuckle. But Barry just had too many of them and by the end it felt like he was just there to pander to nerds who think references are the height of comedy no matter whether they fit the dialogue or not.

Enjoyable all in all, and the stinger was pretty great. Looking forward to the next one.

EDIT: Barry's campaign is basically a Japanese version of the Last of Us, complete with stealth, crafting and brick throwing. The main difference is that it takes the girl like 30 seconds to convince Barry to let her help out in battle instead of half the game.

EDIT: I've used XPadder to assign keyboard keys to a PS2 controller. Using that and my XBOX360 controller me and my friend should be able to play single player coop. We won't be able to play as two characters at the same time, but we can switch to our respective character at appropriate times. My friend isn't much of a gamer so he will let me handle the fights and he'll do the exploring. It's going to be an interesting experience at the very least!

You don't have a choice in the matter. You retain all skills, weapons, items, upgrades AND ammo. So have fun if you wasted all your ammo as Barry. Just wanted to say that the PC coop mod works perfectly if you have two controllers. No problems with performance or anything. There was literally no reason for Capcom to exclude it. There's a mod for coop but you don't have to alter any files. You download the mod manager, start the game, then start the trainer in the mod manager and then enable coop. And it works great for me.

The modder didn't have to alter any files. The coop mode is already done, they just removed the menu option. I'm guessing they were worried about performance issues but it honestly ran SMOOTHER in coop than in single player for me for some strange reason.
