I like the licker shirt since unless you knew what you were looking at, it would mean nothing to most people. But it is still a distinct RE design unlike the groping hands shirt.

I just recently got RE4 on PC and installed the enhanced environment mods and the game looks pretty drat good, only problem is the mouse controls seem to suck incredible amounts of balls. Works just fine with a 360 controller connected though and looks much better than the other versions in my opinion. Might even make me want to buy #5 when I see it on sale.

I would also suggest the high resolution menus mod as well if you don't already have it.

I remember in the original RE, having to sit down on the map screen in order to try and figure out the most direct way from the gardens to the attic in order to minimize the amount of hunter infested room I had to go through, since back before auto-aim each hunter encounter was pretty much a flip of the coin if you would survive.

I don't think I've ever had a reason to open up the map screen in a RE game after that though.

RE0 would have been awesome if once the train crashed, you spent most of the rest of the game wandering the forest at night getting chased by T-Virus animals.

Pre-renderd backgrounds, trees, and monsters just don't mix very well I guess.

Even the part in ReMake with the trek through the woods to Lisa's cabin was suspiciously devoid of enemies

Have there been any decent bow guns in this series? Ada's gets on my nerve in RE6, it's not powerful enough to be a one shotter. And in mercenaries it's a complete waste of space.

Claire's explosive bow darts in CV were a pretty decent, but suffered from ammo shortage issues as well.

Best arrow based weapon though was Krauser's bow in RE4's mercenary mode. With a decent aim you could one shot all the trash monsters than blow away anything larger with his arm attack.

I wouldn't mind of they just did a time-jump for the next game instead of a reboot.

Like maybe 20-30 years into the future where the various viruses and BOWs have gotten out into the wild and multiplied and have basically made most of the world unlivable.

Did they shift development teams or was RE4 just a lightning strike?

Considering its long development time and the number of radically different versions that were scrapped, I'm thinking RE4 was the result of a lot of experimentation and hard work to make what we got.

RE 5 & 6 on the other hand seem more like Capcom going, "We're not going through all that risk and hassle again. We basically know what people like so let's play it safe and crank out these games as quick as we can while the IP is hot."

Interesting. I didn't realize the difficulty level changed the item placement.

That being said, how soon can you get the shotgun? I remember seeing it on the mantle in one of the room right at the start, but I couldn't find a way to unlock it so I just kept going on through the chapters.

All the problems with the RE storyline seems to the lead back to the fact that they never expected the original game to be popular enough to warrant a sequel, let alone spawn an entire franchise, and never really laid the ground work to accommodate that fact.

Personally, I was all over the plot with the first two games back in the day, and I always felt that they were building up to something big with Umbrella. But as more sequels came out it became clear that there was never going to be an "end game" for Umbrella. This was confirmed with RE 5 when Spencer, who was hinted as being this grand mastermind since the first game, was revealed to be just some old man who had like two lines of dialog before being kill off in a flashback cut scene.

I think the creepiness of the early RE games can be directly tied with their soundtracks.

I haven't found the gameplay of RE 1 or 2 scary since I first played them as a kid, but there's something about those slow violin tracks that still give off that perfect sense of foreboding.

After going through RE 4 HD trying to conserve as much ammo as possible and sticking to melee attacks, I'd forgotten how satisfying it to roll up with the tommy gun and lay waste to hordes of mooks.

It got me thinking though, did RE 5 & 6 even have much for super weapons? I tried to remember but nothing stood out to me, where as RE 4 has an over abundance of overpowered weapons and it is great.
