I've been doing Jake's campaign, and I loved the Chapter 3 cutscene where Jake is raging about wesker being his father, and how his bloodline is "cursed" or some poo poo and Sherry just gives him a blank stare before chewing him out.

Also, just seeing Sherry running round as a relatively well adjusted adult brought a big smile to my face. After all the horrible poo poo that's happened to her, she turned out alright. Leon even hooked her up with a government job!

EDIT: Dressing her up in the skimpy hospital gown was pretty creepy though.

Tower room? Spider blocking a door? :thunk: Did we play the same RE1? I know one door in the Guardhouse is temporarily blocked because of Plant 42 being a thing, and Black Tiger's gobbed web over a door to prevent you from just running straight past the fight, but I don't remember a spider hugging a door to stop you from getting in.

In the remake, there's a room in the residence where you enter it, then a spider crawls down from the ceiling, and blocks the door. Could that be it?

I checked a thing online and it appears to be under 3:30, max 2 saves, max 1 spray.

Just want to chime in and say it's slightly more complex than that. You're given up to 100 points based on three categories: time, number of saves, and number of first aid sprays used. Each ink ribbon used takes 5 points, each first aid spray takes 10, and the time loses 10 points for every hour beyond 2:30. (2:30 and before is 100, 2:31 to 3:30 is 90, 3:31 to 4:30 is 80, etc.)

As a result if you use no saves or first aid sprays, but it takes you 5 hours, you still get an A rank. The relevant thing here is that you can save up to 6 times, and if you use no first aid sprays, and complete the game in under 2:30 (both are easy once you have a few games under your belt and know where you're going and what resistance you'll face along the way) you can get an A rank still.

To be fair, it looks like they fixed the "heart on the outside" flaw by the Mr. X model line. Or... maybe that's what the trenchcoat is for?

Wait, can you get a S+ rank on standard? I thought it was hardcore only. Would love to be proven wrong.

This ended up being super sloppy, with some silly, silly mistakes, but managed to squeak it out.

I think Mr. X works so well because he is in the game for a relatively short amount of time. He's introduced and then removed at perfect times. He shows up right when you think you've mastered the police station by having unlocked nearly all of it, or acquired the necessary tools to do so. You've also internalized the enemy locations or killed most of them, and you've accumulated some nice weapons. Then X starts coming after you, new enemies show up, and the power fantasy is popped. You are a fumbling disaster as you try to get your bearings and finish the last couple puzzles and crack the final safes and lockers. He's then removed from the mix once you actually have mastered the police station and are ready to move on to the next main area.

Building an entire game around the concept can definitely fatigue the player, though. The most common complaint you hear about Alien: Isolation is that it's too long. Players will either become too stressed out and stop playing, or they'll become numb to the intensity and the magic wears off as you take death after death without any real consequences.

A pinch of Nemesis is all you need.

Even the original Re3 realized this. You have to shake Nemesis, what, 6 times, plus a trio of arena fights? RPD x2, After meeting Carlos, While backtracking for the trolly, While going to the trolly with everything you need, After the Carlos section. The vbast majority of your time is spent dealing with non-Nemesis things.

About 10% of the population is immune to the T virus. This 10% includes all the RE playable characters., except maybe pre RE3 Jill.

But yeah, its one of those video game "needs to happen in a cutscene or it isn't canon " things.

Well that is convenient as heck. Did Capcom ever retcon in anything about the STARS team being specifically tested for immunity? That wouldn't be all that crazy considering some of the other places the lore goes.

Don't think so. It's really an offhanded comment in supplemental material, that I think they ran with as an explanation to "why doesn't leon die after getting bit?"

Also testing STARS for t virus immunity wouldn't make sense given how many of them end up zombified. (Brad, Forrest, Becky's friend on the train)

Karen Strassman is actually a returning voice for the series. I think most of the actors in RE2Make are no-names because of the voice actor's strike or something? That they'd be more able to plan around her specifically because they already knew how she sounded on tape would make sense.

But yeah, fair point.

Leon sometimes looks weirdly Asian, but otherwise, yeah, definitely. It's hard to remember that you aren't watching a movie during some of the cutscenes. It's still early, but I think in that particular niche at least, it'll turn out to be one of the most visually impressive games of the year.

Claire's VA/Motion capture actress said in an interview that she was familiar with RE2, she even replayed it after she was cast to refamiliarize herself with the role. It's not inconcievable that Annette's actress did something similar and deliberately copied her tone/inflections.

That licker spawns aggroed on you. Either stun it with a grenade and escape, or just run by it. (You unblocked the dorway BEFORE grabbing the medallion, right?)

It is also very useful to set up the bookcases on your first go round, so you just have to push one bookcase once while X is active.

Also the zombie chowing down near the bookcases ignores you until you interact with him, use the ladder or fall down the hole.

Basically a major issue is that people who make mods are universally people who absolutely know every single loving aspect of the game inside and out and usually only really heavily interact with other people who are the same. When you understand a game that well it tends to skew your opinion on the game's difficulty. It's actually a pretty common issue with game design but most developers have outside testers for that reason and are specifically trying to cater to a wide audience. Mod makers usually are making it for themselves and people like them so they never really actually run it by most other people. They end up making something that is hard for *them* but their baseline skill level is so high and often reliant on esoteric/obscure knowledge that it can be entirely inaccessible to anyone not on that level.

And this effect is compounded by the fact that they know the mod inside and out, too. So if they tune it to be a challenge to themselves, it's going to be extremely difficult to beat for someone else who doesn't.

Origin of species also does some bullshit like having a spider camping a door, so it sprays you with venom 0.5 seconds after you zone in, and obviously the chance of poisoning is 100%.

Well yeah, but they're also largely incompetent so them being cops feels realistic to their character.

Leon getting black out drunk and showing up hours late to work for a job he just started feels like a very cop move to me.

Not to mention he showed up to his first day of work in uniform. A uniform that looks nothing like the other cops uniforms. The only reasonable conclusion is that he made his own uniform, himself.
