Starting to dream nightly about this game now. I did hear it but someone talking well enough could make Daikatana sound amazing (to use a really dumb analogy). I need to see what's actually going on, preferably without someone talking about it to colour my perception. Bogart posted:Re5 lacks the cache inventory system of 4 and is such totally worse. Len posted:Not sure. I just remember the horror games thread getting really hung up on there being an invincible ghost constantly chasing you making the game poo poo. Then it came out, that wasn't the case, but the game was still not great. Well there wasn't a single one-hit-kill ghost chasing you through the whole game but there was still more than one boss that shows up repeatedly that can kill in one hit.

Considering we've already got confirmation of some kind of muck monster you can be sure there's almost certainly some kind of -Virus involved, or new equivalent.

Raymond is fine except for his hair so he's fine overall. I wish I could say that the only thing wrong with Jessica was her weird diving suit. If you hate on Parker we need to have some words. I can give or take Clive. Comedic relief characters 1 and 2 can never show up again, thank you.

RE2 also had infinitely better voice acting and cutscenes, for the time, then RE1. Staggeringly so. And as much as people may harp on gameplay over everything else that poo poo still matters a lot and probably mattered even more back then. It's also much, much easier then RE1, outside of maybe the final Mr X fight who can kill in two attacks, so a lot more people were probably able to finish it. Then they got to hear that sweet butt rock at the end of the B game.

I've seen some people claim it actually looks a bit worse in HD because it exposes some of the raw edges and takes away some lo-fi atmosphere, but the screenshots look OK to me. It's fine. Some crazy person is in the process of doing a complete texture replacement for RE4 HD to solve those few complaints but other than that it's exactly what you'd expect out of a port of a Wii game which was a port of a PS2 game. There are some incredibly blurry looking objects here and there but all the important parts look good.

I played all of the campaigns like a shooter with a friend (who also played it like a shooter) and we didn't have a hard time at all. We never played on No Hope difficulty but we did play on Professional. We certainly made use of melee, quickshots, and all those things but we really just shot a whole bunch of zombies. Never really played Mercs. I didn't even know about all the counter-attacks the player could do until much later because I was usually aiming my gun and you can't counter when aiming. They aren't goofy in the same sense as Resident Evil 4's castle and Rev1 actually takes itself somewhat seriously outside of 2 characters and some eyebrow raising character design. The one thing I do remember clearly is the event where the Pterodactyl lifts you near a big cooling fan being actually really hard to succeed at even if you mashed like crazy. Or maybe I just mashed the wrong buttons. I also remember being really proud of myself for figuring out how to get the third ending ("Screw your suggestions game, I'm doing what I want").

I think when that video was released announcing it in August 2015 they had literally not started working on it at all - no concept art, no hiring, no teams, no writing, nothing - since apparently Capcom just wasn't sure that people wanted a better version of the second best original game in the franchise (7 wasn't out yet). So depending on how big the remake actually turns out to be (and actually comes through) I wouldn't expect anything solid for most of 2017 at least.

Backhand posted:Someone once convinced me the TMP was a complete waste of money since it was a not-free crowd control weapon in a game where you had nigh immediate access to a powerful shotgun. The TMP is actually great for crowd control of basic enemies if your goal is to conserve ammo. You just fire a bunch of bullets at knee height and then run up and kick one of the stunned ones. It's also the one of best weapon against wolves if they're in your face because a single bullet from the TMP triggers their stun animation and you fire faster than they recover from it.
