Just got a text from EB Games saying my RE6 preorder is available to pick up as soon as the stock arrives in a few hours. Apparently we got a surprise early release in Australia!

No doubt Capcom learned it was a long weekend/beginning of school holidays and smelled money, but hell, I'm not complaining.

Okay, so it's out in Australia, and if anyone is (still) wondering, split screen is definitely back. Also, Jake's campaign is some of the most cheesy and unbelievable bullshit I have ever seen (this is a compliment, it's awesome).

I have literally no doubt that it will be in the game, but I also have no confirmation of this. I can't imagine they would take it out considering it's been in Resi 5, Mercs 3D, and Revelations (If you count Raid mode), and it's no doubt the most popular and DLC-friendly part of the game.

Yeah, Mercenaries is back. I haven't had much chance to play it yet, but it seems to be exactly the same as ever.

Capcom really needs to stop being so creepy.

If you think that's bad, wait until you see them cram her into a hospital gown that is two sizes too small, backwards and upside down. It's exactly as ridiculous as it sounds.

edit 2:

Also, if you're planning on playing split screen, there's a mandatory single player 15 minute or so tutorial before you can get to the main menu. Hope your partner has something to read!

Alright. I've finished Jake and Chris' campaigns, just started on Leon's. Playing on Normal (which was still actually kind of hard), those two campaigns clocked in at roughly 10 hours apiece.

Having played with the new controls for awhile now, I have to say I actually really like how the whole thing handles - once you get used to it, it's much, much more fluid and easy to control than RE5 was. All I couldn't get comfortable with were the fruity crosshairs (but there's an option to turn on a RE4/5 style aiming laser, which I much preferred.)

Jake's campaign:
A loving ridiculous, schlocky, B-movie action bonanza. Completely awesome. A short stealth section, but it was amazingly non-irritating to play. My favourite campaign, so far. Highlight: Jake actually saying the phrase "come get some".

Chris' campaign: What I was worried about, as the demo made it seem boring as poo poo. Luckily, Capcom's just terrible at demos. Quickly gets much more interesting once (not really a spoiler if you watched the trailer) Chris' team is all dead. Highlight: the fact that Chris has become a really, really angry man. It's pretty hilarious, especially if you consider that it was pretty much as long ago that his team all died as it was at the beginning of RE5 since Jill had 'died', which didn't seem to make him any less civil.

Second highlight: (boss spoiler) I hope you guys liked fighting Yawn way back when! He's invisible now.

Leon's campaign: Leon is the worst driver in the loving universe. His campaign's pretty enjoyable for the hour I've put into it so far, though!

Mercenaries:
Exactly the same as it always was, albeit with the addition of The Mercenaries 3D-ish skills to equip. Adds some flavour to the mode.

That wasn't "his team" in RE5. The first team was a separate group entirely, and the second was Josh's. He's also really cynical and dark about everything right up until he finds the intel about Jill, which turns him around.

Chris picked up a really paternal streak at some point between games and he takes it personally when guys under his command get whacked.

Sorry, I worded it badly. I didn't mean 'his team in RE5', I meant just Jill's alleged death, as compared to his team in RE6.

He is pretty cynical after the Jill thing, but I just meant that it kind of feels like his reaction to Jill - his partner of the last decade - and his reaction to his team should have been.. reversed? I don't know. He goes full-on hulk-out bananas over his team, as opposed to his occasional bouts of cynicism when his ex-captain who betrayed him/archnemesis of the last several years goes over a cliff with his partner and best friend.

The man is an enigma. I won't argue the paternal streak, though, that's a good point.

For what it's worth, I agree with the reviewers' complaints about the aiming system - it's loving terrible, UNLESS you switch the aiming mode from 'crosshair' to 'aiming laser'. I found accuracy 100x easier with that change. The crosshairs are just awful, but I can't put my finger on why.

The occasional driving controls are a bit unresponsive, too, but everything else is absolutely great, in my opinion.

One other thing I've JUST figured out: the difficulty of QTEs from zombie grabs is tied directly to your stamina bar. No stamina = bullshit QTE. Full stamina = easy QTE.

edit: Full stamina + Combat Gauge Booster Mk 2 = impossible to fail QTEs, if you can save up the XP to get it.

That's bizarre, I actually found Ada to be one of the strongest Mercenaries characters. Uzi is great for stuns, and the crossbow can deal with almost any non-garden variety enemy with ease (except those loving flyers). Also, the crossbow quickshot is outrageously powerful, and sets any normal enemy up for an instakill stomp (except dogs, use the Uzi on them).

It looks as good as you can expect...but I'm going to have to not recommend you get it.

I've played through all the way to the minecart sequence, and the QTE at the end where you have to mash on "X" repeatedly to climb up or you fall is impossible as far as I can tell. It was cake on GC and PS2, but here it seems you literally can't press X fast enough. I've run a script to mash X repeatedly, thinking maybe the difficultly was increased somehow and I can't do it quickly anymore, but no. Nothing works there.

So either I've got a serious glitch, or there's a massive bug. Either way, after about 16 times re-playing that sequence, I'm done.

Have you considered you may be pressing X.. too fast?

Oh, I just spent a minute googling this. Apparently that particular QTE can sometimes have issues if the framerate is locked to 60 FPS? Maybe try locking your FPS to 30 instead and see if that helps? It seems like maybe doubling the framerate doubles the amount of buttonpresses required, because Capcom.
