Btw, if you ever see me review a book on Goodreads and you want to read it let me know and I can send it to you. Usually I just sell the books I'm finished back to HPB so I'd rather it go to an interested goon instead.

Anyone managed to migrate their Shelfari collection to Goodreads recently? I submitted a request like a week ago and they said they'd notify me by email when it's done, but nothing yet. Also: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/55516897-ivo-stimac (mostly history stuff, some fiction/sf/fantasy here and there)

I could use some Goodreads friends that actually, I dunno, read books sometimes (most of my friends just pop on to add new friends and then gently caress off for months): https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/15668251-shannon. I mostly read horror/fantasy, but I've been dipping into some non-hard sci-fi lately (with the occasional trashy romance). Basically I'm open to anything book-wise though.

I used to read everything I could get my hands on, but fell out of the habit for a while. Now I'm trying to remember everything I've read to put into Goodreads and pick up an old (good) habit. I'm still adding stuff I've read in the past and moving through the several things I've started reading lately, so recommendations are welcome! https://www.goodreads.com/severalgoblins

Bumping because goodreads did something really good. Yay statistics. https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2016 Went to go crow at my dad about how I had completed my challenge of 53 books and then noted that he's read 199 books so didn't. That will teach me for being slightly smug about reading Copperfield's 911 pages.

Yay statistics. https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2016 I had a rough back half of the year mentally (was laid off, which made my lovely brain spiral into the lovely brain zone) so I'm like at 59 of 78 books. I got cocky when I approached my goal at around 30 books 3 months in so I set my goal further than just a book a week. I'm going to see if I can't power through it and complete this year.

Agatha Christie is good for getting one's score up. Define addiction. my dad posted:Well, you have rather a busier life than I do! (re-posted with permission)

Setting the goal based on books wrongly influences people towards short books and away from long ones. The goodreads page count feature is great for this.

I'm with you there, read the Sherlock Holmes kindle omnibus thing and ended up finding a two part version to mark as read, because it didn't seem quite fair to read so many pages for 1 towards my challenge when you could just read a short story for the same reward. I got an average of 411 which I suspect is the actual average, also got told off for having a 4.2 star average rating. It's that high because 2016 has been so lovely that I deliberately re-read favourite books or picked books I knew I would enjoy. 2017 is a time for brain thoughting.

Yeah, I've done this once or twice. I'll also admit to not wanting to start anything over 500 pages because of this.

I personally get a great deal of enjoyment out of trying to beat my dad's goodreads score. Single player games are fun an' all, but liking the multiplayer mode is also a valid choice.

The goodreads page count feature is great for this. I mean you could also argue that going by pages instead of books influences people towards reading easy books and away from challenging ones. A Goosebumps is worth the same as Heart of Darkness in terms of sheer page numbers. In reality, people should just do whatever they want with their goodreads. I set a challenge for myself every year but mostly I just like using it to track what I've read, and flag books I want to read.

I'm attending to resurrect Book Barns Goodreads page - although I'm not a mod so it may be difficult. If you're interested here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2686-book-barn-goons I'll keep it updated with the book of the month etc. Thought it may be of interest here.

I've just gone through and added a bunch of you (and will add more in the coming days, since I've already hit the limit). This is my Goodreads! I've been fairly active lately and am trying to review every book I read in 2017.

Goodreads is a fantastic place to have thousands of people tell you that the Da Vinci Code is the absolute best book ever written. What I'm saying is goodreads has always seemed awful to me, does anyone have any lists that don't include Harry Potter or twilight?

Or you could find a group which reads the things you like to read and talk to them instead. If you go into a YA group or YA book review section then you are going to find teenagers, it's like going to a bookstore on the day of a new JK Rowling release and complaining that there are too many wizards in there.
