Btw, if you ever see me review a book on Goodreads and you want to read it let me know and I can send it to you. Usually I just sell the books I'm finished back to HPB so I'd rather it go to an interested goon instead.

Anyone managed to migrate their Shelfari collection to Goodreads recently? I submitted a request like a week ago and they said they'd notify me by email when it's done, but nothing yet. I could use some Goodreads friends that actually, I dunno, read books sometimes (most of my friends just pop on to add new friends and then gently caress off for months): https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/15668251-shannon. I mostly read horror/fantasy, but I've been dipping into some non-hard sci-fi lately (with the occasional trashy romance). Basically I'm open to anything book-wise though.

Yay statistics. https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2016 Went to go crow at my dad about how I had completed my challenge of 53 books and then noted that he's read 199 books so didn't. That will teach me for being slightly smug about reading Copperfield's 911 pages.

I got cocky when I approached my goal at around 30 books 3 months in so I set my goal further than just a book a week. I'm going to see if I can't power through it and complete this year.

I'm with you there, read the Sherlock Holmes kindle omnibus thing and ended up finding a two part version to mark as read, because it didn't seem quite fair to read so many pages for 1 towards my challenge when you could just read a short story for the same reward. I got an average of 411 which I suspect is the actual average, also got told off for having a 4.2 star average rating. It's that high because 2016 has been so lovely that I deliberately re-read favourite books or picked books I knew I would enjoy. 2017 is a time for brain thoughting.

I personally get a great deal of enjoyment out of trying to beat my dad's goodreads score. Single player games are fun an' all, but liking the multiplayer mode is also a valid choice.

The goodreads page count feature is great for this. I mean you could also argue that going by pages instead of books influences people towards reading easy books and away from challenging ones. A Goosebumps is worth the same as Heart of Darkness in terms of sheer page numbers. In reality, people should just do whatever they want with their goodreads. I set a challenge for myself every year but mostly I just like using it to track what I've read, and flag books I want to read.

Or you could find a group which reads the things you like to read and talk to them instead. If you go into a YA group or YA book review section then you are going to find teenagers, it's like going to a bookstore on the day of a new JK Rowling release and complaining that there are too many wizards in there.
