I went to DEMF and had a blast and now I'm thinking of checking out the Decibel Festival http://dbfestival.com/artists/ but don't recognize as many names. Orbital, Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, Nina Kraviz I think someone was gushing about Dixon in this thread and hear people raving about Actress but what other folks should I give a listen to before laying down $200. Lots of good names on that list. Actress is great, his last album is special. Actress in general is someone special. For sure listen to John Talabot (his album fin is great), Objekt (everything he does is gold, peep his FACT mix for sure), Monolake, Demdike Stare, Octave One, DVS1, Roman Flugel, FaltyDL (he's like garage tho), Peter Van Hoesen. Also I really like Dixon a lot and recommend his mix for Robert Johnson from last year. He's a great DJ in general but that mix is something special. Teengirl Fantasy and Kangding Ray are also good, too. Axel Boman is a great DJ and a great remixer. Fun dude. Oh and seeing Kuedo would be fun too. You can find a lot of mixes by any of these dudes online. Try mixesdb.com and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Have you been to Boiler Room? I've been, and I can tell you that of course you're going to want to dance in front of the camera, because that's what makes Boiler Room special (obviously there are people who don't want to be seen on camera, but can you deny the fact that some will, even if they Like The Music?). Does that mean that she doesn't like the music? Of course not. Hatem Ben Arfa posted:I don't get why you're so defensive about what I said. Tbh I got really mad because you said "fat chick". (and people wonder why techno is such a "boys club"). While I agree with you that there are definitely people who are in to it for the exclusivity, I think you would also agree that it is definitely not the only reason that people will go (look at my experience, additionally I had a friend who went to see Ben UFOs set at the RBMA x WHP boiler room who you couldn't see on camera - and these are definitely not anecdotal situations). If people wanted to go simply for the exclusivity, then why is Boiler Room LA almost always empty and why did Soundstream have almost nobody there to see his set? (Also, since when have we been judging how people dance, right?) Already have it preordered >B] There are a lot of good techno labels, it just depends on what you're looking for, right? Like are you looking for like, heavier stuff or like tech housey stuff - industrial or not - minimal or not? I mean the obvious place to start is going through the Sandwell District catalog because that was LA based (yes Regis co-ran it but the distro was US based).

Funny thing is that Mira is a UK label eh. I think I would start with like Kontra Muzik (which can be experimental), Killekill (also can be experimental, but heavy), Stroboscopic Artefacts (once again, can be v experimental, but v heavy), Prologue, MDR (Marcel Dettmann Records), Drumpoet Community, Token Records (V heavy), Sahko (heavy / experimental), Time to Express, Mote Evolver (though technically Luke Slater is British, the distro I'm pretty sure is european). I mean the easiest thing to do is like, listen to the CLR podcast - listen to episodes with djs that you're familiar with obv - and see what they're playing.

That remake is from 2005 but the original is from 1990 and has been lost forever or something like that. I've been waiting on a repress of it now forever. Nina plays it a lot. Zip played it in his fabric CD. Ben UFO played it on Wednesday in the 4 hour Boiler Room. In any case I think it should be repressed. Lord knows it would sell really well.

AKP posted:What mixes have you guys been listening to? http://impliedmusic.com/mixcast-004-john-roman/ This week I've listened to: - Donato Dozzy - Babylon Market Mix http://intersticessg.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/donato-dozzy-babylon-market-mix/ Of course Chris from mnml ssgs couldn't stay away from the bloglight forever - he still posts on RA every time there's an article about someone who recorded a mix for mnml ssgs. In any case, that's cool, because he's friends with Dozzy - and I'm always down for more Dozzy. - Avian (Shifted & Ventress) - Electronic Explorations Mix #245 http://electronicexplorations.org/?show=avian Shifted is easily a Try Hard, but that's why I love him. This isn't really a Shifted mix, but it's like a mixtape of all of Shifted's noise / experimental electronic friends. It's really good imo. - Beats In Space #668 - Delroy Edwards & Ron Morelli http://www.beatsinspace.net/playlists/668 L.I.E.S. in the building. There's only been one mix from Delroy before this, and this is just straight jams. Ron Ziti is always a party on BIS. Even if you're not a fan of the L.I.E.S. sound on its own - I can barely stand some of the records and only own four out of the like 30+ - Ron knows how to DJ with them and he makes it work. I can't really DJ like that, but Ron can. Also, this week's RA mix from Jam City is great.

QCIC posted:I haven't been able to drudge up anything really great from their archive, any recommendations? There are a lot of really great RA podcasts. If you like the more heady techno type stuff, then you'd probably like the recent Skudge podcast. A few I would look in to: 135 - Dettman 201 - 19.454.18.5.25.5.18 257 - O/V/R 272 - Kassem Mosse 318 - Rrose 105 - Donato Dozzy 310 - Shifted How did you like the Ron Morelli Christmas podcast? I really liked it a lot. I think if you liked any of those podcasts, you should probably take a dig through the now-defunct mnml ssgs podcast archive as well here I highly *HIGHLY* recommend this recording of Dozzy at Labyrinth in 2008 that the ssgs put out. To be honest, I think you'd like Donato Dozzy a lot. Maybe that's because he's one of my favorite DJs ever. Dozzy @ Labyrinth (Japan) 2008 Yes it's really long (over 4 hours?!) But trust me, it's beyond worth it. I would start with that before any of the other RA podcasts. The ssgs podcasts on average are much more enjoyable than most RA podcasts, and I like most RA podcasts. You might also like the Little White Earbuds podcast, which is also a really quality podcast - I think both the ssgs podcast and the LWE podcast are on average much better than a lot of the RA podcasts, but that's probably because my tastes are more in line with LWE and the ssgs than RA, who has a wider net to cast.
