Any reccos in the vein of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wlfneBB0xM (Len Faki & Johannes Heil - "Maniac")??

I've been digging through some of Niereich's old podcasts & while there is lots to love there, this one really caught me. Deep, noodly business that's still dance floor friendly.

I've been out of the scene since '97, so I'm absolutely clueless about labels/artists now.

if you've been out of the game for that long and you're interested in contemporary berghain-y techno i would just skip to 2005 (not to downplay the importance of 1998-2004 ofc, lots of records released in that time period are hugely influential). ostgut ton, berghain/pbar's in-house label was founded in 2005, and sandwell district was "revived" in 2005 (after regis & female put out a few records under the imprint in the early 2000s) when regis started collaborating more heavily with north americans function, silent servant, and rrose. these two sort of pointed the direction for a lot of contemporary stuff

others would be like... figure (naturally, len faki's label), mdr, klockworks, dystopian, token, avian, semantica, clr, ilian tape, deeply rooted, power vacuum, m_rec, mord, pole group. probably more i'm forgetting

Will dig in to this info when I get home from work. Thanks for giving me a place to start!

I spend more time listening to mixes than albums/single tracks, so I'd also poke around for mixes done by the other Berghain residents on soundcloud (Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Marcel Fengler, Kobosil...)

Yeah, that's a lot less taxing for me too. I can only browse Juno/Beatport back catalogues for so long.

Good looking out; I'll check some mixes out by those folks.

resident advisor podcast is a good place to start for mixes, most of the djs/producers we're talking about have done one. they reupped their archive in honor of 500 so they're all available on mixcloud. fact mag mixes too, although those can be more hit and miss, in my experience. if you want me to get more specific about recommendations i can

from there i would just check mixes.db and pick and choose based on the djs you enjoy... mix cds have sort of gone the way of the buffalo because of podcasting but fabric's mix cd series is generally good for this sort of thing (their fabriclive series too, but it's more all over the place than straight house and techno as the fabric series tends to be) and dj kicks still exists.

I'll check that site when I get home. Honestly, I just blindly stumbled across Niereich's podcasts on YouTube looking for stuff since I now have access to a CDJ set-up. I tend to dig most of the stuff he spins.

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago but you can catch up pretty quick. I agree you can skip forward to '05 without missing too much. I would add Giegling, Mote-evolver and Delsin as labels worth looking into.

Nice! I'll check 'em out!

Hello everyone, sorry forgot to post and then I got banned :)

Mini trip report:

Went to Panorama Bar on Friday where Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann played. They do that once a year (in P bar I mean, they obviously play downstairs at Berghain normally).

It was insanely good. Went in around midnight because I thought Ben Klock was doing the opening (he wasn't, a guy called Nitam did 00.00 - 03.00), and stayed till about 14:00, when Ben was STILL playing. What a legend.

There was lots of b2b, but Ben played most of the time. It was cool to hear his interpretation of the tech house you usually get at P Bar. A little harder, a little rawer. Everyone had a good time and was enjoying these guys in the small surroundings of the P Bar. Klock even poured drinks into the glasses of the people dancing at the console :3

Oh, went to see Andreas Henneberg at Sisyphos the week before, which was really good too!

Pretty cool; I've yet to be disappointed with a Klock or Dettmann set.

So I’m into American and European tech house (defected, dirtybird, etc) but I want to expand into techno, but there’s so much going on I don’t even know where to start.

What’s the best way to jump in and get a feel for the different subgenres? Should I just throw on a bunch of Carl Cox and go from there?

If you're on Spotify, look for user Adam Heaton. He's got a ton of public play lists broken up by sub-genre that he updates fairly frequently.

Well gents, after 18 years of not having touched a mixer or a turntable, I'm pretty well sorted out on gear again. Had to figure out the right buffer settings so I didn't get artifacts, but eventually got things in order.

Go easy on me, lads. 1st time in forever & I don't know all the tunes too well

I don't know if you've heard this one - I've posted it here a few times, but it's definitely my favorite mix by him.

Here's one from the Hypnus memoir series, where it's all tracks or remixes by the person doing the mix

https://soundcloud.com/hypnus-memoirs/1-luigi-tozzi

(this whole series is pretty solid)

Thanks again!!!!
