How do other people get money to make their games then? I don't think every game developer begs people.

They're given an advance by the publisher.

I guess I missed about six months of the internet, but why do people hate Notch?

It's a long story. Basically a combination of Minecraft never delivering on the things he promised, and being a dick to Yogscast when they showed up at Minecon to help promote his game.

I'm not sure letting people play a beta version of this is a good idea. Isn't there a saying that goes along the lines of 'Comedy is like sausage, it's great as long as you don't see how it's made' Do you really want to see adventure game humor go through multiple iterations before it actually gets funny?

Wait, is this some elaborate meta-troll I'm missing here? The Yogscast people acted like dickbags and everyone hates Notch because of this?

What it eventually came down to is that absolutely no one came forward to say they witnessed Yogs acting badly so it appears he made the whole thing up.

I hope this gets a lot of attention. I'm not into adventure games anymore but I can definitely think of some niche genres I'd be interested in funding.

Chris Avellone just said he'd be down for a Kickstarter campaign to do an old school isometric RPG

That's exactly what I was thinking of when I said I'd be interested in funding other niche genre games. I didn't guess it might actually be done by former Black Isle employees though, wow.

No, he just said that he doesn't understand how someone making a significant contribution couldn't some equity on the project. He's still happy for DoubleFine.

That's not how Kickstarter works, in a nutshell.

The amount of money I'd kickstart for Planescape Torment 2 would be absurd.

Unfortunately it can't really happen because of licensing issues. At best you could make an homage.

I always knew that Kickstarter was going to make goons sympathize with the likes of Activision sooner or later. I just figured that Obsidian was going to be the ones to do it.

Thinking the publishers are always in the wrong is childish thinking. I'm sure there has been plenty of screwing both ways.
