I know literally nothing about that gun but even I felt that price was low.

I really want a .32 S&W Long autoloader, they're so stupid (from a practical standpoint) and limited in their use that I have to love them.

So damned good.

I've actually read that those, like the Highway Patrol 4006s, have that leaf spring that breaks all the time in 3rd gens removed and made impossible to put back and so the triggers are all saggy and clicky with no way to fix them.

I don't know if you've played with a 3rd gen without that spring before but it ain't no good ain't no good a tall.

"California State Parks and Rec, carried the Smith & Wesson model 4006-CHP from 1996 to 2009, as the primary duty weapon issued to State Park Peace Officers. The 4006-CHP was unique in that it had an adjustable rear sight (no fixed Novak rear sight), no trigger play spring, and was engraved with the State's Grizzly Bear logo and the words California State Parks under it. Additionally, the slide, frame, and barrel were engraved with a unique identification number, which started with PR, which stood for Parks and Recreation."

Yeah, so basically there is this goofy looking copper colored leaf spring with two bunny ears in all 3rd gen S&W autos whose only purpose is to remove some of the take up from the trigger and keep it from dangling and swinging to and fro like a flacid dingus when the hammer is back and your finger is off it. It also keeps the trigger from having this very annoying tendency to click rather noisily during that take up which pretty much ruins the trigger pull. In fact, two of the three 3rd gens I've had have had that clicky habit when first acquired, despite having those springs present and intact, and both times I fixed this by bending those bunny ears forward a little bit with a pencil eraser to add some tension to it.

My understanding is that to avoid officers developing this clicking and needing their guns serviced frequently to fix it, California had the brilliant idea to remove the spring altogether. That way, all officers would always have the annoying clicks and would simply have to learn to deal with them and therefore they would never complain about their trigger pull changing when the springs broke or lost tension. I mean...it's not the solution I'd have gone with but I guess it's arguably a solution. This would itself be not big deal I suppose for someone who wanted to buy one now, as this spring only costs like 3 bucks from Numrich, but it is also my understanding that the guns are all modified such that this spring cannot even be added which is just a total dick move and so very unlike California as they're usually so cool when it comes to firearms.

I don't know what this modification entailed or if it could be reversed by replacing other parts, though. I can only say that I would have no interest in owning a 3rd gen S&W with a soggy noodle for a trigger that clicked annoyingly for no reason every time you started to take the slack out of it, even if it did have a cool NCR bear on the side. Which is a real shame because that is probably the only .40 cal in history I'd otherwise want to own.
