I quit bidding on the Mauser, somebody wants it worse than me. I got distracted by an interesting old German .22lr that I'm gonna keep an eye on for a couple days.

Also, this thing, if it wouldn't be a pain in the rear end to import. Euro goons, if you want a target .22lr, this thing looks pretty drat sweet.

Custom made single shot Swiss rifle, from the 80's.

It has some kind of patented quick-adjust trigger, which is what the knob on the trigger guard is for, and the extra lever sticking down there is to cock the bolt. Neat.

I just watched Elite Squad 2 and now I want an IMBEL IA2 so bad.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMBEL_IA2

Descended from a long line of FAL clones made in Brazil it is apparently the new service weapon of the Brazlian Armed Forces.

How realistic is it to expect these to ever be sold in the US?

As rifles and not parts kits way down the road when they retire them or buy new ones or whatever? Not very. We've got a poo poo load of import regs that make it really difficult for anything "non-sporting" to come in.

No one has ever imported a version of the current Imbel Mod 2/3 in 5.56mm NATO, and no one (including Imbel) seems much interested in doing so anytime soon. Lets face it, the US market is already flooded with .223/5.56 cal military style rifles, and most of them have only moderate sales at best.

But don't dispair quite yet, there is 1 gun, that you might still accept instead.

Back in the early '90s, Springfield imported a couple thousand Imbel FALs chambered in .223 (actually a 5.56mm NATO chamber). They had the same model designation as their .308 cousins and were mostly parts compatable with other FALs: Springfield SAR4800.

The 4800 in .223 was a civilianized version of Imbel's earlier 5.56mm NATO rifle, the Mod 1.
It was basically an FAL, with a slimmer, lighter barrel; and designed to feed from standard M16/AR15 magazines.

Now since these came in during the early '90s they had thumbhole stocks and a muzzle brake pinned on. However, converting one back to an FAL configuration is easy: just get an FAL stock and PG, and remove the pin in the brake. The barrel still has normal FAL threads, so lots of devices screw right on.

Yes, there's 922(r) but since the gun takes AR mags, there's 3 US parts right there. Get an US made PG and stock from DSA, and you're nearly home free. Maybe go with a US made flash hider/bayo lug device and handguards to complete the 7 needed parts.

Its not an Imbel Mod 2 or 3, but it is an Imbel and it is based on the FAL just as they are; its just from an earlier stage in development.

For what its worth, a friend of mine has one that was put back to military config, and its a fun rifle. He has an Imbel bipod on it, along with a good quality FAL optic..from one country or another. Its setup as a fixed stock, but converting it over to a Para folder wouldn't take much work as DSA has a kit.

Hey you know me and FALs...if you mention one or a variant of one, just expect an overly long winded reply!

More than you know. serial number has it coming out of the factory probably late 2012, still has factory grease in the slide, and 0 wear at the contact points. if it's had 50 rounds through it I'd be shocked. I've actually put more wear on the slide just familiarizing myself with it (breaking it down, reassembling, dry firing) than was there when we picked it up.

So there are 2 layers to this gun to make it so white whaley.

The first is that it's a K-22 2nd Model, aka K22/40, aka Prewar K-22 Masterpiece. They only made 1067 of them in '40-'41. They were essentially the same thing as a K-22 Masterpiece or Pre-17 in that they had the better short action, better sights, etc, except they still had all of that depression era attention to detail including high grade finish and just more hours put into them in general.

Any 2nd Model is a white whale for me not because of the rarity, but because they are probably the finest .22 Revolvers ever made. The Pre-17 is a glorious gun, these are just a Pre-17 plus a lot of extra time and attention to detail.

The second layer involves:

Sperglord Actual posted:

It is.

The King Gun Site company was basically the place you would send your gun if you wanted to compete with it. They developed most of the features we take for granted on new revolvers. The sights we typically use, the hammer, etc. Those were all King innovations (and patents).

A King Super Target Colt Officer's Model is a Proto-Python. Basically everything that makes a Python rad was what King did to it. After the war Colt just made a gun equipped with all that poo poo.

Any time King did something to a gun you have one of the very few cases where that aftermarket work increases the value.

To make matters better from a collector's standpoint it isn't very uncommon for a gun to letter out as to having been ordered from S&W with King equipment. So it may not even be considered after market if it lettered out correctly.

Surprisingly, neither of those are the safety. The lever on the slide will lower the hammer, the one on the frame is a take down lever. I don't think it has a safety.

It's a K31-style action built from the ground up by Hammerli as a 300m free rifle and many were used by the Swiss Olympic team. This one was supposedly used to win a couple world championships but I don't have the rifle and/or documentation yet so .
