Why am I contemplating getting a AA89 (MP5 clone) from Atlantic Firearms? I already have an AR15 that has been SBR in 9mm. But here I am.

Reports are that they've fixed the improperly cured paint in the newer builds. Or bake the receiver in your oven for an hour at like 200. Or suck it up and have a rad-looking MP5 with a worn and lovely finish.

No one knows. The ATF has contradicted itself many times over in regards to SBRs and 922(r). The CYA safe bet is to buy compliance parts. Or don't, if you feel it's not a risk / worth the money, time, or effort.

the finish is fine. it's paint. you can bake it to make it better but mine looks fine after a couple thousand rounds through it. welds on the POF are better than those on my DJ Getz MP5SD. the SD does have a better finish though. both come with SEF lowers which are not as cool as the pictogram lowers that people like TPM use in their guns. those are $3k+ though

that one is a straight HK SD marked magazine

Pictogram lowers of various markings can be had for as little as $30 on HKpro's marketplace. Or as much as 500. Trigger packs are anywhere from 200-600 and will likely require semi auto conversion.

While I kind of agree that 922r is one of those things that you're never going to get busted for unless it's part of another basket of charges, I don't really think we should be encouraging people to willfully violate it either. Making that decision for yourself is one thing, encouraging others to do the same is something else.

Also it's probably not a bright idea to post pictures online along with text that all but reads "HEY ATF, BREAKING THE LAW OVER HERE."

tl;dr - 922r is kind of like pot. The ATF isn't going to fastrope into your living room over having the wrong magazine in your gun any more than the DEA is going to bust you smoking a joint in your livingroom, but you probably also don't want to be That Guy posting facebook pictures of dank nugs and videos of bong rips.

Atlantic isn't showing the POF MP5 in stock anyway. Got another source for them?

The POF does solve the issue of getting a 3 lug adapter for my ti-rant as it's threaded. Have to look at what it would take to get compliant with 922r.

Even though those rounds are $10 a whack or better, you're only going to shoot once because you're curious, maybe twice if you're a masochist.

Being as I have a Glock 23 that I just ordered a 9mm conversion barrel for, and a Ruger P95, buying this makes no practical sense. But...I seem to shoot better and just like the feel of larger, heavier pistols, and I've always loved the 92/M9 look.

I kinda really want a pdw-length Sig MCX. I know, I know, Sig USA, piston ARs, the AR charging handle I hate so much, I know, I can't help it. Short barrels, folding stocks, and weirdo modular concepts are my jam. Whether or not I'll ever actually shoot any rifle enough to wear down the fuckin feed ramps, cam pin path, shell deflector, charging handle latch point, or any others, it super tickles my fancy that those are all five seconds with an allen key away from replacing.

stubby rifles.

Thats a great price for a pre-war.

By the way, as far as Pre-War HDs go they are nearly all 5". I've been told that it was only 200-400 that were made with a 4" barrel, and some in 6" that I am unsure of the number on.
