Be prepared to really shell out some cash though.

Don't get the Lucid kits, they're poo poo. They look nice from a distance, but they're not acceptably in spec. If they were at least consistently large, it would make sense to have to do some sanding to fit, but mine were too small on one side and too large on the other. Even with fitting and shimming, the handguards are still loose and the vent holes don't line up even off the rifle, and even though the grain matches. The stock was good enough, and the handguard surprisingly comfortable.

I want a Finn M28-76. They went through all the trouble to make a classy accurate target rifle that would be a great alternative in the classy accurate target rifle market that the Swiss have cornered- but they did it in x54r. It's an utterly insane, silly gun in an insane, silly caliber and I want one.

And they're on sale!

If you're going to take something utterly useless and make it even more useless, may as well have some fun with it.

is exactly why I want one. It has zero defensive or competitive purpose, but it looks like a good way to show the kids a good time come July/New Years. It's like a Dessert Beagle or single shot .50- one of those things that no one needs but everyone should know a guy who's got one.

How much weight do those wooden kits add over the standard A1 furniture?

I can't speak in terms of ounces, but it's probably not much. It might even be a little lighter. IIRC there's no heat shields on the wood handguards and they do have vent holes which double as lightening cuts. There's also no trap door assembly in the stock. And it depends on what kind of wood you get. Maple is slightly less dense than American Walnut, which are both rather less dense than Beech.

"New" elephant and rhino ivory is internationally illegal for CITE signatories and federally illegal under US endangered species law. There are a few programs to let Eskimos sell legal certified ivory products from regulated narwhal/walrus hunting. There have been a few abortive attempts to legally sell confiscated elephant and rhino ivory, but they never wind up working because South/Central Africa is so pervasively corrupt the money never makes it to the people who need it in significant quantities.
