The way conversations can flip a 180 at any moment, for no reason, reminds me a lot of the way Tommy Wiseau writes dialogue. Hell, I read Tails' line in panel three in Johnny's voice spontaneously.

I think he's trying to replicate something here, like 90's to early 2000's teen movies where everyone's partying and then they end up pairing off and they get emotional and poo poo and the rest of the movie is about resolving issues. Problem is, he lacks the self-awareness to understand how loving weird it comes across with video game characters, cartoons, and corporate mascots.

I mean, that's always kind of been what he's doing in one way or another, but it's fun when he's doing stoner humor or bad anime.
