Juvenile Garibaldi are the absolute best. For me Garibaldi are *the* SoCal only fish.

The day I see one in Monterey Bay will be one of the saddest days ever.

You're not wrong, I just wished they were as chill as Catalina Gobys - which I have yet to photograph. A previous camera was in the middle of flooding during my first Catalina trip, and my second dive trip was for a deep dive class, so no camera. Fingers crossed I get something decent on the third trip.

I did not feel much of a difference when I switched to Nitrox. But the last fill was delayed because of equipment issues, so I did 3 dives with air yesterday, and holy crap, I felt like I got hit by a truck at the end of the day.

ID request:
What are the black/red mini roaches?

And what is the star-shaped critter above the black critter?

Yeah, that's when you notice the difference.

Or if I do two deep dives on air in a row (with appropriate surface interval, of course), well, then it's naptime.

Amazing photos as always!

I was just in Oman but ended up not diving there, just did snorkeling at the Daymaniyat islands. Pretty happy about that as everything interesting was at a pretty shallow depth and scuba stuff would've been unnecessary hassle imo. Saw more turtles at one site than in years of diving before

Proper camera and light gear makes a huge difference though :(

Has anyone done diving in Oman? This trip was mostly land-based so I didn't fit any diving in, but I also didn't get to Salalah so I might end up going again.

Two cancellations in November caused quite a dry spell. Glad the trip yesterday was not cancelled.

ID request first:
What two critters are hanging out near the eye here?

I'm an obtuse man,
so I'll try to be oblique.
Back in early November, during the horrendous low season lull, I went with my wife to Sail Rock for some fun diving (we get to go for free; a perk of being an employee). At the end of the dive during the safety stop the wife found a little octopus. When it realized it was spotted it tried to hide, but we managed to get some pretty good video. At one point, however, as it was escaping, I realized it was mimicking a hermit crab! This is the first time I've ever seen a common octopus do such a thing.

I first read this as "when I realized it was spotted" (like the blue spotted) and was :yikes:

I've actually been pretty close to a couple different blue ringed octos. They're quite small and timid. Completely non-aggressive and try to get away.
