What's keeping California from simply having some kind of Prop 9 or whatever to repeal Prop 8? Their initiative system is so easily abused that it's the de-facto argument against direct democracy. You can basically change anything you like with an amendment proposition and companies can and do try and buy laws.
They could do that, and marriage equality would have a very good shot at passing, but they are waiting to see how the court cases play out first.

Here's a cool vote tracker for the early voting on Amendment 1. It shows party affiliation of the ballots sent in (b/c of the primary) and which counties, and even precincts, they come from. While early voting likely won't be huge the numbers are really interesting. The college precincts are ones to watch to see if students will vote.

Average age of voters could be predictive. It's 59 so far, which doesn't seem so good for the good guys..

And there are about 30-50% more Democratic ballots cast than Republican, so far. And more Women voting too. I have a feeling that will change on election day though.
NC is one of those states where all the old people who live in rural areas are registered as Dems, despite being conservatives. So it's kind of uncertain whether that's good or bad news because it depends what types of registered Dems are voting.

Early voting in NC is outpacing even the 2008 primary.

Nothing super informative, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg is pretty sure the court will be taking up a DOMA case in the next term.

So did Missouri. Then again, I didn't expect much out of this state.

It's like most people here saw John Ashcroft losing the senate seat to a dead man back in 2000 and decided "You know what? We're tired of occasionally doing good things." And then voted for McCain and Romney, and sent people like loving Billy Long to congress.
At least you guys rejected Akin, so that's something. Not that McCaskill is anything great of course.

Obama's stepping in to help the effort to get marriage equality in Illinois, where he probably has the most influence. Unsure from the article whether his support is any more than a statement from his representative though.

The French love artists, love satire (when not of themselves), and they love men in women's clothes - so I don't see why they wouldn't.

The French government unfortunately has been getting increasingly homophobic though.
Do you mean the French government or the French opposition? Because Hollande's government pushed through marriage equality in France despite large and loud protests by bigots (strongly supported by the two major right wing opposition parties).

Hawaii's Senate passed the marriage equality bill 20-4. The House takes it up tomorrow.
Is this the most lopsided vote margin in favor of marriage equality for a state legislative body ever?

The judge is a former Republican politician who was appointed by Bush too.

I know that doesn't necessarily mean that much when it comes to the judiciary, but that's his background.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kennedy has voted to uphold Roe before and would do it again if necessary.
