no. U2 was a legit band that turned into a bloated monster led by a dude with a Messiah complex; Creed was always that band. Nickelback is/was simply derivative garbage.

Here's the thing: my kids will never know or give a poo poo about Creed or Nickleback. They're like- I dunno- Asia (the band): something that had cultural cache for a moment but was gone when it was used. They might run across one of their songs at some point but the impact of those bands are nil. They represent nothing and mean less. They'll reunite and tour and play riverboat casinos and state fairs and poo poo and old GenX/Millennials will go see them and no one will be harmed by any of it.

Meanwhile U2 is ostensibly the house band for one of the biggest corporations that ever existed, a group of men who literally use tax havens because of their wealth. In their "good" years, they functioned like a corrupt charity that tricked everyone into thinking they were socially important or something. U2 in the 80s and 90s was the loving Susan G. Komen of rock and roll.

Compared to that, Creed was punk as gently caress.

And this is a more interesting and authentic thing than anything Bono ever did:

I just saw this on Twitter and Marz Brewing in Chicago was defending it as "an hommage" to Cantillon. The stones on that comment are amazing.

Yes.

But really no because those bands didn't/don't make music FOR white people who choose to wear khakis to work.

Here's another way to look at it: if you start a band because you were inspired by Creed or Nickelback or U2, that band is going to play the local dive bar and describe themselves as blues influenced or some poo poo and it will certainly be made of suburban dads (shout out to my peeps!).

They will also be loving terrible.

The other bands you listed will likely inspire the same bands but also some good ones. We know this for a fact. The difference is that no good band will ever list U2 as their main influence. Or Creed. That poo poo is kind of all the same and as already discussed, the stuff that comes along with Bono and Co's music makes them much loving worse.

Okay, here we go...

Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout - Wow! This beer was very upfront with its flavors, tasting strongly of peanut butter with a chocolatey after-taste. Like drinking a Reese's cup.

Mikkeller Raspberry Blush - I don't remember too much about this beer other than the strong raspberry flavors. Not usually a huge fan of sweet, fruity beers but I remember drinking all of this and enjoying it.

Fall Brewing Devil Cat - Very hazy, very hoppy. I haven't been drinking as many IPA's lately but this reminded me why I like them so much.

Tusk and Grain Barrel Aged Blend No. 02 - Now this is a complex beer. Strong toffee nose, tastes like malt and raisin with a vanilla finish. I've been saving this one for a while because I don't drink 13% ABV beers most nights but I'm glad I finally opened it.

Overall I didn't like the BiF... I LOVED it. I got a chance to try a lot of different beers that I would never see in my area and next time I'm in California, I'll be sure to seek out some of these. I'm not one to look at beer ranking websites or really follow buzz so I don't think I would've picked up any Pizza Port beers based on their can designs but those were among my favorite in the box. I also loved the designs on the Modern Times beer and the beers in those cans lived up to it. The Tusk and Grain was a great way to finish the box. Five forks.

I hated the original blush from mikkeller SD so of course I had to get the double in this months beer box. It's actually really good. A ton of coffee and raspberries, it tastes very close to some high cacao hipster chocolate infused with rapsberries.
Also I spent $20 on a can of Julius to see if the hype is validated. I am part of the problem.

in other "hype" news, we have CBS and Superstition mead turding up the shelves nowadays and our regional Bell's distributor was bought out by a company that Larry Bell beefs hard, so no Hopslam (or anything else of theirs) for Central VA! bonus points for the fact that Joe's Inn, a neighborhood bar/restaurant, has been the number one account for Two Hearted in the world in multiple years

Never forget that Larry Bell pulled out of Chicago- his biggest market at the time, if not still- in the mid-2000s because of a dispute with a distributor. Dude may be an rear end in a top hat (that seems to be the general consensus) but he also has no problem standing by his beliefs over profit. For two years, I was regularly running cases of Two Hearted on my way home from Wisconsin for friends.

Considering Julius is $3.75 a can yeah $20 is a bit steep. But it's not too far off a bar markup for something like that if you were to find it in the wild illicitly.

I'm happy to have a brewery that's actually not too far from my drive home for once. Wide Awake is opening next month and I'm excited to try them out; I've been following their progress for a bit.

I've not been to either; I've been saying for years that I'm gonna make it out to Edmund's Oast in person but it just hasn't happened.

Also, that Belching Beaver is pretty nice - I actually got to try it at a bar not from where I was staying in Japan in November.

I didn't even realize it was only $3.75, figured it was $5 like all the other hyped breweries.

We're getting these small, infrequent drops of California hazy stuff like Alvarado, Cellarmaker, Humble Sea, Pure, etc. here in Portland and they're $6-8 a can. I'm sure it's good stuff but can't justify that price.
