Any IPA competition where vile poo poo like the Widmer Spiced IPA not only makes it to the 4th round, but beats good beers like Hopworks IPA and Elysian Idiot Sauvin is not a competition I can take seriously. Also, Full Sail's IPA, while a pretty good beer, should not make it to the semi-final round of an IPA competition.

Edit: not down on the Fat Head IPA in any way. I've never had it, nor many of the other beers in there. From the results of the beers that I have had, the bracket is a real head-scratcher. Who judged this competition?

Hunahpu's was pretty slammed today. I didn't get there in time to get a wristband, but I stayed around, enjoyed some taps, and picked up half a case at the end. I wish I could have gotten there earlier to try some of the rare taps, and I'm kicking myself a little for not going ahead and buying a full case, but I'm happy with what I got.

Really? I thought for sure that they would run out far before case sales were on at 7:30 with how much busier it was than last year and the same bottle count. I pretty much peaced out right away after getting my five bottles (mule lyfe till the next lyfe). Seriously, there had to at least be five times the people there. I had plenty of delicious sour beers and otherwise expensive beers (5 bucks for an 8 oz pour of Angel's Share? Yes please), and left with a minimal sunburn. Didn't waste my time with any of the "rare" taps, there was plenty of great stuff to go around without waiting in that huge line for the aged Dark Lord. The sour beers went much better in the rather warm weather anyway.

Anyone know?

That reads as fresh before 06/18/(1)2, on their six-month freshness cycle that's not super old, bottled on 1/18/12 and should still be plenty delicious, if not optimal. The upper part is batch number coding for quality control purposes.

This is now because Hoptimum is now a six month release. They're doing batches of it for six months, then batches of a new Imperial Stout for six months, then cycling again.

Lots of pine and grapefruit, aggressively bitter. I'm enjoying it but it's not an every day beer, it's a lot to handle.

Not sure how to read their canning dates, but I'd parse "2 02 06" as Feb 6th? So a month and a half old

It should say in clear English "Canned on XX/XX/XXXX / Funny Slogan Here" on the bottom of the can, unless they're using a different canning line for their 16oz cans or otherwise can't stamp them for some reason.

I don't know what's been up with Lakefront recently, maybe a new brewmaster or something, but their new bombers have been far better than any of their six-pack beers aside from their IPA, which was always pretty good. I've enjoyed their IBA, Fixed Gear, and Bridge Burner a pretty good amount. They're not exceptional, but they were all good beers at a good price (about five bucks a bomber). Or be a cool kid and have a kegerator and a bottle capper and just pour a glass from a bomber, purge it with Co2 and then recap it with a new crown cap.

I have stoppers like this and they keep beer perfectly when the bomber's about half full for about two nights, or for one night if it's 1/3rd full. A bit past that, there'll be an effect on carbonation, but it won't be undrinkable or anything.
