There is one beer geek breakfast dessert about 40 miles away from me and I periodically think about driving to go pick it up. An import (Lervig Aktiebryggeri) no less, not the one they're brewing now in SD.

But honestly somehow it's become a huge part of the "culture" of hazy IPAs that you have to sell them off a pallet at the back of your brewery and everyone is doing it just because that's what that crowd wants and expects. Lineups for beer attract the absolute worst of the beer scene and then you've got 20x the capacity of the tasting room on site so you can't even enjoy anything but the IG photo you got of your new hypewhale while you're there.

Maybe First Draft does a better job because there are never empty glasses sitting around and the taps are spaced well enough over two floors that it is never crowded. Seems like a fine option to enjoy pints when operated properly, but I can see issues with places that don't ensure taps stay rotated and tables are clean.

I've been to east coast implementation of these PYOB (they're all buying the tech from the same company) and it looks like First Draft adheres to the same template (keep the glasses clean, accessible and clean). My only negative mark is they didn't handle nitro beers very well and I was disappointed with ruined pours of campfire stout. They kept rotating out empty taps extremely quickly, as fast as they could replace it and update untapped.

Plus they have a rose tap so they're going to do OK.

Warning: Internet irony should not be used as a adjunct.

quote:

Taking Donations Update
It has come to our attention that bottles of Taking Donations have been compromised by lactic acid bacteria. If stored warm all three bottlings develop elevated levels of acid. While these beers are fully safe to consume, this was not our intent. Highland Park Brewery desires to put out the highest quality product and wants to address this issue head on.

A few things to be fully transparent:
1) This is not the beer we set out to make.
2) We will make it right for anyone who experienced compromised bottles.
3) We are taking every measure necessary to minimize issues such as this in the future.
4) Lastly, though this was a collaboration with Alex Kidd from DontDrinkBeer, these beers were 100% brewed, aged, and packaged at Highland Park Brewery and thus we take full responsibility for the compromised bottles.

Really sucks as I think it's Highland Parks first failed beer. On better news I was able to get into their bottle club for 2019.
