I've yet to try Maximus for whatever crazy reason. I've never actually seen it on tap, and every time I go to the store I'm enticed to buy something else instead.

My local beer store ALWAYS has Maximus, but there always seems to be another limited/seasonal beer which I grab instead. One of these days...

Maximus is probably my favorite Lagunitas offering. Delicious hops which really offset the typical heavy maltiness of the Lagunitas strong ale.

On the Alpine Spring-Noble Pils debate I am strangely on the Alpine Spring bandwagon. I never really cared for Noble Pils but was really expecting something delicious. Alpine Spring on the other hand is a completely inoffensive, pleasant beer which is just tasty and light. I've enjoyed it immensely every time I've drunk it.

I drank a Titan IPA from Great Divide the other day and didn't care for it much. It just tasted salty with some weird hop flavors going on. Maybe it was because I let it warm up a bit too much but definitely not a favorite. I did get to try Expedition Stout which is delicious and tonight I'm drinking some old Orval I found on the shelves bottled in 2010 :coal:

Indiana goons, I'm going to South Bend for a wedding there this weekend, any breweries/bars in or around that area that I should definitely hit up? Most of the big breweries (3F, Bell's, Jolly Pumpkin) are too far away to justify driving a rental car to, but anything close would be great.

This. LSS is good, delicious, wheaty and hoppy all at the same time. To be fair it is one of my favorites so it's not totally Oberon's fault, but Oberon is really just kind of Alpine Springish to me-no big flaws but nothing special either.

Since the subject of Korean beer was brought up, HITE, OB, and the variations thereof are all really strangely good beers. Not in a craft brewing sense, but in that they are the cleanest, least tasty pilsners of all time. There is a tiny bit of malt flavor in the water, they're extremely pale, but really hit the spot in the middle of a crazy Korean summer.

More importantly, I could down about 3 20 Oz glasses of it as we ran out of a bar because it is just like water. Oh drinking games in Korea.

I'm drinking the DFH 75 Minute IPA and it's pretty delicious. Nice malty profile with a nice hit of hops, but it isn't overwhelming. While the hop profile feels more West Coast, they're definitely at an East Coast intensity. The maple is very, very subtle and it is completely possible that it's all in my mind, but it just tastes really nice.

Many will likely disagree but I really like Sam Adam's Summer Ale this time of year, and it's really, really easy to find.

Trying a pale ale from a relatively local brewery called Grayton. It's pretty nice, very tasty with a decent hop balance, although for a pale I would prefer something fruitier. I think they went a little more reiseny than most and it's still nice and refreshing but I guess I just like my PAs the way they are sometimes :)

Hop Manna from Schmaltz is good too, and I also drank it tonight. Nice hop and malt balance, very drinkable and delicious.

You're lucky you taste anything, I can't :(

I've been able to drink a lot of beer recently through a variety of celebrations and have been having a pretty good time doing it. I finally got to my chocolate oak-aged yeti and it was indeed delicious. My only complaint was that there wasn't quite enough cayenne or hop to break up the bitterness of the chocolate and roast malts. A little age would have done it wonders, but I grew impatient. I had a batch of the always delicious Lil' Sumpin Sumpin, and finally got to try Mama's Little Pils which is also pretty delicious. Great Divide blew me away with Nomad and DPA though. Both are full-throated, deliciously malty and hoppy beers. Complex, yet extremely drinkable.

I also had some of Oskar Blues' Gordon, which is a decent imperial red. I'm probably just not a huge fan of the style, but it just tasted like a decent, alcohol-y brown ale. Not bad, but nothing special either. Lagunitas' CENSORED copper ale was better, more balanced, and had a little bit more body to it and I enjoyed that thoroughly.

I also got to try Bigfoot for the first time recently. For a barleywine it is incredibly drinkable. The piney hops really stand out and make it easy to take down all 12 ounces, with the malts being present but not overpowering. Slight age on one would be perfect. My main two thumbs down this week have to be both Ta Henkey and Aphrodite. I couldn't have more than 2 sips of either. Ta Henket was just not up my ally, but I can't stand Aphrodite. It's just one of the worst, overspiced winter beers I've ever had. Luckily I had it at a beer tasting, so only 4 oz was wasted.

They then mentioned that Founders was expanding, but really didn't have enough caves to age more KBS.

Things like KBS aren't really something you necessarily want to increase too quickly. I'm currently drinking Founders I've found in Alabama, but they aren't going to receive any special releases pretty much ever (although there are cases of Imperial Stout at the store I found sorry guys) and that is ok. If they start running out of Centennial IPA or any other normal releases that is an issue, but not seeing KBS *everywhere* is part of it being a special release.

Got my one bottle of KBS at a shop today in AL and it is pretty delicious. Never had it before but it has a little more booze than I was expecting for a BA coffee/chocolate stout. I do enjoy the hints of both and the general beautiful mouthfeel of the beer. Cracking open the bottle you could smell both the coffee and chocolate as if it was bottled yesterday. Wish I could obtain another to sit on for a year, but I'll accept this. I do like that the alcohol doesn't hit overwhelmingly of bourbon or wood as some beers of this type do (I'm looking at you Old Rasputin) and its very enjoyable. A+ would drink again.
