Teeth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdQ7B7T9qV0 The Mess Up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD_7IHxkDFs&feature=channel Gebbie St - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsOSv9KcpOE Album comes out on April 6th. It's loud as poo poo dance punk in the vein of DFA1979 meets Justice. There's also drat Terran who are pretty fantastic rock and roll: Rational Economic Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJmz1Sc0lLQ) who'll be supporting DZ along with Velociraptor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbi7DWTrH3s). On the same label, Bleeding Knees Club (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZCcd6c8TJw) have just released their first LP and it's pretty fantastic surf punk. Also, Last Dinosaurs (Zoom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqGs36oPpLQ) because it's really loving good.

Just got back from SXSW/CMW were I saw them about six times and was also on tour with them doing some video stuff a while back; I might be bias, but I loving love their stuff.

As much flack as the Presets got locally after a while (because My People was everyfuckingwhere) I still adore their live show. It's stupid fun to dance to.

Having seen them a bunch of times at SXSW and now their home tour, I can definitively say that POND is better than Tame Impala by like, a million. And the new album owns.

Laserface posted:I dont get festivals. its like a concert, only there is more people there that arent there to see the band you like, and everything is expensive. It's a pretty cost-effective way to see a bunch of bands you like, as well as the chance to check out other new bands. That said, sometimes it doesn't always work well (see Sigur Ros at Splendour a few years ago, and I have the sinking feeling the same will happen to Explosions In The Sky this year; post-rock doesn't fit well with short festival sets). Also because I'm in Brisbane, we don't/rarely get sideshows sooooooooooo Count Chocula posted:Nah, only bands I like are Shins and Jack White, and I'm nervous that they may have strayed from their roots. And they've both announced sideshows. They're both in fine form and very similar to past times I've seen them. Had the chance to catch them both at SXSW and it's worth seeing them.

2ndclasscitizen posted:This is the big problem with festivals in Australia at the moment, people don't go to the see bands, they just go because it's the thing to do. Which I don't get, if you just wanna go get pissed, why would you do it at a music festival when you've gotta line up for an hour to pay $10 for a mid-strength beer? How to tell a Queenslander; we complain about mid-strength beer. It's a stupid law and the people who did it should feel stupid. I'm in the same state of mind though; I remember reading the first reports from Harvest in Melbourne with people bitching about missing bands because they were waiting in line for drinks. How about you skip the alcohol you stupid pricks?

Creature posted:I think that's why Harvest was so good. It wasn't marketed at the 'let's get munted' crowd, it was for people who actually wanted to see a bunch of good bands and not worry about some yob smacking them in the head. I've never seen such a chill festival. Speaking of, they've secured Sigur Ros as headliners this year. Full lineup comes out sometime in the next few weeks. Should be another cracker.

Shunkymonky posted:I do. Glad your Magic Bones friends enjoyed it. The blog isnt exclusively on Australian artists because it'd bore me but I do try and include all the good local stuff thats available on bandcamp. look at this scrub only just hearing big black delta Although they are loving amazing. Violent Soho's limited 7" only appears to be available through JB Hi Fi for $23. I'm going to be asking around the local record store here (Brisbane, so it'd make sense for them to sell it locally) but for some reason, I'm not particularly hopeful. I do enjoy Cub Scouts' new single as well; yeah it's Brisbane-based indie pop, but it's well done and heaps better than the new Hungry Kids/Ball Park stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haCay85cpvo I really didn't enjoy Ball Park's new album outside of 'Surrender'; it's an odd one, and nowhere near as catchy as the first. Might have to revisit it later on.

Hey. EVERYONE. No Anchor are an amazing DIY stoner-metal-punk band from Brisbane, and are putting out a new album. It's incredible, like the rest of their back catalog, and you owe it to yourself to at least have a listen if not buy their entire output. http://noanchor.bandcamp.com/

I'm heading down from Brisbane to shoot ATP; if anyone wants a weekend pass that I no longer need and can meet in Melbourne on the 15th/16th, I can sell it for $170 or so.

Creature posted:How many does Maddah run though? Two? Three? I can only think of Harvest and Soundwave. I think there's another but can't remember its name. It's only a small percentage of the total number of festivals each year, and the rest are all fairly Australian music heavy (Pretty sure there's a law that Jon Butler has to play at least 60% of all music events, and if he can't make it, The Cat Empire or Blue King Brown have to fill in). He's going to be a part of another festival co-coordinated by UNFD, a metal/hardcore label.

It's possible to be lukewarm to Abbe May's new album but goddamn the live show is something to behold. Still shreds even having less guitar than usual. Definitely check her out soonish.
