Cut Copy is Australian?! Man, the more you know...

Anyways, I can't believe, especially with the Nick Cave leadoff, that no one has mentioned Dirty Three yet. Fronted by violinist/Bad Seed/Grinderman member/frequent Cave soundtrack collaborator (they worked together on The Proposition and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) Warren Ellis, they make music that is by turns epic, aching, explosive, tragic, and occasionally joyful. This is a particularly good time to be paying attention to them because they just put out their first record in five(?) years, which means maybe we'll get a worldwide tour out of them, and they are a live act not to be missed. Plus Warren Ellis gives some of the best meandering stange-banter you will ever hear.

This is the song that got me hooked on them. The buildup from the 5 minute mark on is too cathartic for words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-x0PU1VSN4
