I love The Vines. So surreal going from listening to them in an American mall to hanging out with them. The drummer just left to join Wolfmother, which sucks but they've weathered worse.

I've met them a couple of times, even starred in the same music video together.

But I hope they have more answers about what is happening with them.

I assume David Puddy is trolling? Every time I've tried to listen to Angus & Julia Stone I literally fall asleep.

I thought I was the only one. I also hate Birds of Tokyo.

The sounds there is weird, I was watching Silversun Pickups there and if I had my earplugs in I couldn't hear any guitar, and then if I took them out no vocals, it was odd.

Same. I went there to see the Strokes once and Julian Casablancas ended up sounding like Pee-Wee Herman. Then a friend told me their acoustics of Horden aren't the best, since it was originally an exhibition pavilion than a theatre that would accustomed to the best sound quality for a music concert.

Yeah. These guys. I have been around them as they have traversed the varying scenes in Sydney over the years. The singer is super pretentious. He added me on facebook one time because we hung out at a party and then he added my girlfriend and started talking to her. she wasnt even at the party :stare:

He was also on the original popstars, I think.

He dated one of The Veronicas twins and the bass player use to date Craig Nicholls of The Vines. Probably tried to ride on famous people's coattails.

I absolutely love The Vines. as well. They got big in the US right when the "The" band craze was at its height (The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Hives, etc.), and I remember Highly Evolved being so much more raw and energetic than a lot of other stuff on the radio at the time.
I also remember laughing my rear end off at how apologetic a lot of haters got when it was revealed that Craig Nicholls is an Aspie.

The concert I regret missing more than any other is when I had tickets to see Jet, The Vines and The Living End in NYC in 2003. I think TLE was touring for Modern Artillery. I got a massive nosebleed while driving into the city and ended up in in the hospital :(

Speaking of The Living End: I know they're huge in Australia, but for the life of me, I can't seem to meet anybody who listens to The Living End here. Which is a shame, because they've been one of my top 5 favorite bands in any genre since I heard a live version of "Pictures In the Mirror" on a free CD sampler I got at Hot Topic as a kid. I enjoy their really old, rockabilly stuff a lot too, but the s/t, Roll On, and Modern Artillery are just killer albums. I will agree with the general sentiment that White Noise and the newest album are kind of weak. If I ever win the lottery though, the first thing I'm doing is buying a plane ticket down to Australia and seeing them play live.

The Living End are awesome live. Saw them at the Big Day Out 2012. Seen The Vines several times but I hate Jet because the front man is so pretentious when he plays live and is nothing like Craig Nicholls.

The Church are an amazing band, and I buy all the releases I can from them. However, I would argue with the OP that Unguarded Moment was nowhere near their landmark album. They will live on forever on 80's compilations for "Under the Milky Way", which is ok because Starfish is a wonderful slice of shoegazey pop. "Reptile" is still deadly. I kick myself for not making a trip to NYC to see them a few years back, and I heard they've recently been doing shows of the Whole Album Start to Finish flavor. I would commit unspeakable acts to see Priest=Aura live. That is one of my favorite things.

They played Homebake last year, which is a music festival comprising only of Australian and New Zealand acts for an all ages crowd in Sydney.

I was obsessed with John Williamson when I was 7 years old because I was on a road trip with my family up to Far North Queensland and the only music that we played were John Williamson tapes. After we came back home, mum bought me tickets for one of his shows playing at the local RSL and I ended falling asleep midway through the gig. Then I started losing interest.

First concert I ever went to (if you don't count going to see The Wiggles as a 3 year old).

Now I'll just post Crocodile Roll because you didn't.

Is it just me or do you not tend to find this kind of humour and creativity in American country music. I mean John Prine is cool but JW just has such a more diverse range. Sure he can be overly soppy and sentimental some times but his good songs are just great.

To be honest, I hate country music in general like a lot of other people but at least JW has humour in his work. All these contemporary Australian Country Music stars poo poo me to tears. Nothing will ever beat Slim Dusty though.

Was anyone else at Dig It Up yesterday? I hate to say this, but after a day of amazing music the Hoodoo Gurus were a bit of a let down. Most of the other garage acts on the bill emphasized simplicity and directness, but the Gurus seemed twisty? Off? It's hard to describe. Or maybe it's just impossible to follow The Sonics, The Fleshtones, and Steve Wynn.

Straight Arrows and Royal Headache were fantastic as usual, of course. I dare anyone to go to a Royal Headache show, watch Shogun bounce around the stage, and not smile.

They're supporting The Black Keys when they're coming to Australia in October. I didn't get to see them at the BDO in 2011 when they pulled out. I wonder if there's still tickets for the Newcastle show.

The Panda Band even wrote a few songs about them. Pae's playing that horrid Bob Dylan tribute show with Kevin Mitchell and a few other mediocrities; it'll be horrible.

The Grates are on my 'Bands I need to see live before I die' list but the last time they toured, I couldn't afford/never got around to buying a ticket.

Big day out and soundwave compete for two different markets, essentially. BDO has been mostly loving awful though so its rightfully dying.

I went to this years BDO at Sydney, it was good that they have a large amount of Australian bands on the lineup but I also think that their outlook of future doesn't look so good :smith:. It would suck if it ends up collapsing and leave a huge hole in the summer music festival calendar. Although there was rumors that Livid festival was starting up again.
