If he's actually changing and recognizing his failings, that's good, and that can take time. I dunno how old he is but if he's having this reflection at a younger age and breaking out of the edgelord idiot phase early, good for him. These forums have gone through a transformation over the years as well, poo poo was a lot more vulgar and gauche when I joined, I'm not proud of some things I've said in the past either and striven to clear my ignorance whenever possible, I hope he is on a similar path. He could also regress and double down later on, so I guess keep an eye out for that

I know Symphony of the Night is super famous and all, but it will always bother my inner child that the term is "Metroidvania." That whole shtick was a signature part of Metroid on NES and SNES (Metroid 2 on GB, not so much) well before Castlevania did anything worthwhile with it on PS1 (Simon's Quest was trash). Ah well, at least Metroid gets top billing. Shine fucked around with this message at 00:27 on Apr 21, 2021 |

Metroid-likes and Igavanias differ from each other primarily in whether or not they have RPG mechanics like levelling/equipment/random loot. Most Metroidvanias crib from Iga's games more than Metroid.

Battle Axe delivered today and it's really good! I highly recommend picking it up. It's available on PC and Switch right now and is coming out on Xbox and Playstation later this year.

Weird kickstarters I have spotted recently: Gemini Station is a browser based game that's seeking funding to improve its assets. It's a space game, and I'm feeling weirdly nostalgic for the genre, I haven't played browser based games in forever. Lone Fungus - Mushroom metroidvania that got funded! Has a demo. Cute Bite, essentially Princess Maker but with a vampire, made by Hanako games. Tyrant's Blessing, Into the Breach but fantasy. Spirit Swap, a match-3 game with a story with a focus on diversity. Looks cool! Down Ward - a platformer with a focus on flying mechanics, as you're an owl with a sword. Has a demo. Suffering - Chinese turn based thing, they're touting its difficulty and it seems...possibly good? Lost Eidolons - classic turn based strategy in the style of Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics, still hasn't funded yet. Boring art style, which is a shame. Zapling Bygone - another metroidvania about skull swapping and precision platforming.

Judging from the Awful games thread, there is basically no lower quality limit to the games that sell on steam as long as they have some form of sex, or at the very least, boobs.

While my boardgame KS'es have almost always turned around and delivered as promised, my PC backings have been about 60/40, tops.

the FNF kickstarter is approaching its final stretch goal. well. the final "real" one, before the really ridiculous tiers like hiring an animation studio to do a fully animated anime intro/cutscenes, making PS1 disc versions of FNF, etc. If they do, I hope they get Trigger to do it, they did a phenomenal job on the Indivisible intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H08y7_AFygU&hd=1

That FNF Kickstarter looks like it’s going to be crushed under the weight of its stretch goals. They’re promising multiple extra games worth of content there.
|
# ? May 8, 2021 22:35 |

To be fair, they were also asking for just 60,000 before. There's some major feature creep here, but at least every single stretch goal for the kickstarter basically required the product to be refunded first. That said, the game's absolutely going to take forever to come out now, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had to shed some of their loftier ambitions in the process.

Captain Invictus posted:I believe it took them a couple months to do Week 7. So if that continues for the rest of it, then yeah, looking at at least a few years out. Although if they take on help from people like the fellas who made the Whitty and Tricky mods then I bet they could speed things up significantly. Hell, just get the people who worked on the more popular mods like those and the demon nun one and such and just slot in the most popular mods with slightly updated graphics, cutscenes, etc. I think the Pico stickers were on hand too. Both those and Tankman statues did their job IMO. However, the not one but three physical soundtrack options, while making sense for a rhythm game kickstarter, are absolutely going to be a killer. Sadly I think they already said they have no interest in making the mod characters official, because they wanted to make the game themselves. Its kind of a shame because the game has a lot of popular mods that'd save the devs a lot of time, and IIRC Hank's in the game anyway so it isn't even like Tricky'd be a poor fit. I can respect the decision, though, even if it'd absolutely be a timesaver.

It's more like, why not add them as well, in addition to the parts they're making themselves. Whitty and tricky are huge parts of what attracted people to the game, with tens if not hundreds of millions of views for videos of their weeks. It'd be a big draw for the community imo, to have beloved mods made official, and a lot of the work is already done.

It's kind of out of control and at this point there's probably more unofficial content with mods (and their own lore) than official content. Most of current fervor is based on hype from the current newgrounds game and I don't think it'll be able to sustain a few years. Are they just going to work on it and release it all at once or will they actually drop content update as they finish?
